KYOCERA SLD Laser, Inc. is pioneering the future of light. New ideas are being harnessed to realize tomorrow’s product innovations. We are building light that goes beyond expectations in illumination and adds functionality in ways that weren’t thought possible – until now.

The next generation in lighting has arrived, shining brighter and farther than ever before. In the last decade, LED enabled a new generation of lighting that changed everything. Now, laser light outshines the limits of LED to deliver safe, high luminance white light from an incredibly small point source. LaserLight, the world’s brightest and most innovative light source. Laser light doesn’t just offer superior technology, it’s enabling entirely new opportunities.

We are commercializing revolutionary semi-polar GaN LaserLight for the next generation of display, automotive, and specialty applications. LaserLight sources are used directly in single color and R-G-B applications, or integrated into laser pumped phosphor architectures.

As an independent spin-off from Soraa Inc, SLD Laser was founded in 2013 by several leading global pioneers in solid state lighting, including Dr. Shuji Nakamura, a 2014 Nobel Laureate in Physics for his groundbreaking work with LEDs, Dr. Steve Denbaars, Dr. James Raring, and Dr. Paul Rudy. Our laser technology incorporates a robust intellectual property portfolio of over 500 patents. SLD Laser was acquired by KYOCERA Corporation and has commenced operations as a Kyocera group company under the name KYOCERA SLD Laser, Inc.

Laser light technology delivers high-density white light, shining brighter and farther than ever before. It meets the gap in current technologies with the reliable efficiency of LED and the bright, narrow beams of legacy halide and halogen. Laser light surpasses the limits of existing lighting options to deliver safe, high luminance, collimated, long throw beams, from an incredibly small, lightweight source. It doesn’t just offer superior technology, it’s enabling entirely new opportunities in specialty lighting. Finally, a bright light source that offers the elusive narrow angles needed to create long throw distances. Get the efficiency of LED with more luminance to light farther and achieve more visibility than ever before.

KYOCERA SLD Laser technology combines high luminance white with infrared emission from the same point source in a safe dual channel SMD. A major breakthrough for specialty lighting and automotive providing a compact multifunctional light source that enables the next generation of smart applications. More than 100x the luminance of typical LED, LaserLight SMD delivers 500 lumens of white light and 1,000 candela per square mm output from a miniature 7mm surface mount device (SMD) lighting package. The KYOCERA SLD Laser reflective system uses a high-powered blue laser to illuminate a phosphor resulting in safe, bright white light.

The award-winning, innovative architecture features high-efficiency fiber delivery of light from a proprietary blue laser diode to a remote, high performance phosphor, resulting in the highest luminance and intensity concentration of any white light source available, and meeting the standard safety regulations for the automotive industry.

SLD Laser's visible laser light sources are used directly in single color and R-G-B applications, or integrated into laser pumped phosphor architectures. These sources enable applications in a myriad of vertical markets, including Automotive, Display, Specialty Illumination, Biomedicine, Industrial Materials, and Defense and Security.
