Fiber Optic Lighting
Fiber optic lighting takes advantage of the principle of total internal reflection to deliver light. A bundle of optical fibers performs as a “light pipe” throughout the length of which light is transmitted. The fiber can either be end-light, which produces a point source at the end of the extrusion, or sidelight, which emits continuous light along the entire length. The fiber-conducted light is pumped by a light source (illuminator). LEDs have become a logical choice of light source over other options.
