Nichia is gearing up to present its cutting-edge automotive lighting solutions at the International Symposium on Automotive Lighting, held at Darmstadium in Darmstadt, Germany, from September 25th to 27th.

This year holds special significance for us as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Nichia's invention of the world's first high-brightness blue LED.

At our exhibition booth #2, we'll be showcasing three remarkable products:
  • The revolutionary µPLS™ (Micro PLS) light engine, designed for high-definition adaptive driving beams, offering exceptional brightness, pixel density, and versatile connectivity for seamless integration into modern automobile designs.
  • Near Field Projection light solution, providing unparalleled design flexibility through transmissive lenses and a compact chip-scale package, delivering over 400 lux from a compact light-emitting surface (LES) at a distance of 1.2m.
  • Thin Design Headlight, featuring an elegant 15mm lens height design, ensuring the necessary luminous flux for low, high, and adaptive beams while maintaining high optical efficiency.

From September 25th to 27th Nichia will exhibit at the 15th International Symposium of Automotive Lighting (ISAL 2023) in Darmstadt, Germany. ISAL 2023 is one of Europe's most influential scientific conventions for automotive lighting. The event enables hundreds of industry leaders and experts to highlight new advances in electronics engineering to improve road safety and address developing transport standards and regulations.

Taking center stage will be Nichia's µPLS, a pioneering light engine solution which integrates pixelated micro light emitting diodes (μLEDs) ideal for high-definition (HD) adaptive driving beam applications. The technology delivers the brightness, high pixel density with individual pixel control, and flexible connectivity required to enable it to be smoothly integrated into a modern electrical/electronic (E/E) car architecture. Additionally, Nichia has been invited to deliver a technical poster presentation which will provide a deeper dive into the µPLS.
Nichia will exhibit at AHC 2023, the 4th Asian Horticultural Congress, held from August 28th to 31st in Tokyo, Japan. The AHC 2023 will bring together scientists and experts from around the world to discuss horticulture in Asia. 2023 is also the year of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Japan Society for Horticultural Science (JSHS), therefore, related events will be held during this period.

On August 29th and 30th, Nichia will exhibit and introduce Hortisolis™, white LEDs for horticulture. Hortisolis™ is an LED that incorporates all the light required for plant growth into a single package by elaborating a combination of phosphors, making it possible to increase the production efficiency per area of the artificial farm with maximum efficiency, while at the same time realizing a good working environment in the artificial farm.
The Direct Mountable Chip is a chip scale LED package which has been developed through Nichia's technology and expertise in phosphors and LEDs. The white series has four size options (1.1mm×1.1mm, 1.3mm×1.3mm, 1.7mm×1.7mm, and 2.1mm×2.1mm) with color temperatures ranging from 1800K to 6500K, and color rendering index options from R70 (Ra≥70) to R9080 (Ra≥90, R9≥80).

The color series offers a wide variety of discrete colors in two size options (1.1mm×1.1mm in three colors and 1.7mm×1.7mm in eight colors) with the same forward voltage for each size to allow for easier fixture design.

By making the LED package size equal to the light emitting surface size, it is possible to achieve the largest class of luminous flux density in a limited space within a luminaire.

What can be achieved with the Direct Mountable Chip?
  • High luminous flux density enabling compact fixture design.
  • A wide variety of power output options to support various applications.
  • Compact light emission size provides optimal color mixing and this enables customers to design tunable and/or multi-color fixtures easily.
  • Uniformed forward voltage in all colors makes electrical control easier.

Tokushima, Japan – 20 July 2023: Nichia, the world's largest LED manufacturer and inventor of high-brightness blue and white LEDs, is pleased to announce the additions of the E11A (1.1mm×1.1mm) Red, Brilliant Red and Green to its high luminous flux density Direct Mountable Chip portfolio.

The Direct Mountable Chip is a chip scale LED which has been developed through Nichia's technology and expertise in phosphors and LEDs. Its color series has already been commercialized in the larger E17A (1.7mm x 1.7mm), and has received a high reputation through their various key features, including a compact fixture design enabled by high luminous flux density, optimal color mixing provided by its compact light emission size, and uniformed forward voltage in all colors making electrical control easier. While maintaining the excellent characteristics of the Direct Mountable Chip, the E11A color series with a smaller size of 1.1mm x 1.1mm has now been added to the portfolio. In addition to landscape lighting, architectural lighting and indirect lighting, Nichia expects that this expansion of the color portfolio will provide flexibility for the fixture designs and contribute to expanding applications.

Additionally, Nichia plans to launch a blue version within 2023.

Nichia continues to develop products that are useful to society.
