The CBU-DCS is a Bluetooth controllable, Casambi-enabled LED driver controller built for seamless integration into intelligent lighting networks. It is compatible with ANSI C137.4 standard products, such as Philips Advance Xitanium SR LED drivers and OSRAM LED drivers utilizing DEXAL™ technology. Unlike standalone controllers, the CBU-DCS does not include its own power supply. Instead, it draws power directly from the control interface of the connected LED driver. ANSI C137.4 compliant drivers combine DALI communication with a built-in DALI power source, ensuring a simple yet robust control setup.
When integrated into a Casambi network, the CBU-DCS allows flexible configuration—from a single luminaire setup to a large-scale, full-featured control system. Depending on the Casambi generation, the system can automatically form a wireless mesh network of up to 127 devices (Classic) or 250 devices (Evolution). The entire network can be easily managed through the Casambi app, available for iOS and Android platforms, or through other control methods such as timers, Casambi-enabled PIR or lux sensors, and smart wireless switches like Casambi Xpress or EnOcean.
The wireless communication range between two CBU-DCS units, or between a CBU-DCS and a smartphone, depends on environmental factors such as obstructions and building materials. In open-air conditions, the range can reach up to 200 feet, but physical barriers may reduce signal distance. Each CBU-DCS also functions as a repeater, extending network coverage by relaying signals through the Casambi mesh. During installation, it is important to test that all devices can communicate within the intended network area to ensure consistent control performance.
The CBU-DCS operates within a voltage range of 9.5–22.5 VDC and draws a maximum idle current of 5 mA, with standby power consumption below 0.1 W. It communicates over Bluetooth frequencies between 2.401–2.483 GHz, with a typical output power of +0 dBm. The device performs reliably in ambient temperatures from -4°F to +131°F (-20°C to +55°C) and maintains a maximum case temperature of +149°F (+65°C). It can be stored in environments as cold as -13°F (-25°C) and as warm as +167°F (+75°C), with humidity levels up to 80% (non-condensing).
Compact and lightweight, the CBU-DCS measures 1.59 x 1.43 x 0.55 inches (40.4 x 36.3 x 14 mm) and weighs only 0.5 ounces (15 g). It is UL Listed and UL Plenum Rated (UL 2043), ensuring safe use in commercial installations. Wire connections support solid or stranded conductors ranging from 16–20 AWG (0.5–1.5 mm²), with a strip length of 0.25 inches (6–8 mm). The device’s dual connector sets are internally connected in parallel, allowing for easy routing of the DALI control bus through the unit—simplifying wiring and enabling the connection of multiple drivers.
The CBU-DCS must be powered exclusively through the control interface of an ANSI C137.4 compliant device, as using a standard DC power supply will permanently damage the unit. It can be mounted outside a junction box using 16–20 AWG wiring. Installation is simple: press the terminal buttons on top of the device, insert the stripped wire ends into the corresponding ports, and release. The polarity of the DA1 and DA2 terminals is non-critical. Up to four LED drivers may be connected in parallel to one CBU-DCS controller; exceeding this limit can result in permanent damage.
The CBU-DCS supports DALI-based lighting control applications, including presence detection and daylight harvesting via connected sensors. When used with compatible DALI drivers, it supports multiple DALI Device Types such as Type 6 and Type 8, enabling dimmable, tunable white, and RGB lighting control configurations. By combining Bluetooth connectivity, Casambi’s mesh networking, and full DALI compatibility, the CBU-DCS bridges traditional lighting control standards with modern smart lighting systems, ensuring flexibility, scalability, and reliable performance across diverse applications.
