Casambi Enters Wired Lighting Control Market With New DALI Controller Series


Global leader in smart lighting control, Casambi, unveiled its latest innovation today – Salvador, a new series of DALI controllers. This announcement signifies the tech firm’s strategic entry into the wired lighting control market, establishing its new position as a mainstream lighting controls provider.

Today, at the Light + Building tradeshow in Frankfurt, Germany, Casambi introduced its new DALI controller product series, Salvador. The range aims to enhance flexibility in lighting control by providing wireless, wired, and hybrid options. This initiative the founder says aligns with the company’s mission of enabling flawless lighting experiences for all:

How does it work?

With Salvador, wired and wireless devices can coexist harmoniously in Casambi applications with no limitations when mixing different product types. DALI drivers integrate into the Casambi system through wired connections, operating seamlessly as normal Casambi-enabled devices. The first two form factors in the series can manage up to 64 DALI addresses and support DALI DT6, DT8, as well as D4i via the Casambi cloud API.

Salvador


The Salvador 2064 comes with an integrated 130 mA power supply, eliminating the need for other power supplies on the DALI bus. Additionally, it features an internal Real-time clock (RTC) with backup energy storage and housing with cable strain relief. The second form factor, Salvador 1064, requires an external power supply.

The Salvador 1064 is available for sampling, with full-scale production scheduled to kick off in Q2 2024. The unit pricing for Salvador 1064 is set to be highly competitive, positioning it favorably against existing DALI controllers in the market. The Salvador 2064 is poised for sampling starting in Q3 2024. Additionally, the company is preparing to launch a dedicated US version, further expanding its commitment to meet the diverse needs of the American market.

Casambi Appoints Mark McClear As New CEO


Helsinki, Finland – Global smart lighting control company, Casambi, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark McClear as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. McClear takes over from Kari Mettälä, who, following five years of dynamic leadership, has stepped down to pursue other strategic priorities.

We announce today the public release of Casambi Pro, an innovative and powerful new planning and commissioning tool tailored for ambitious lighting projects.

What is Casambi Pro?

Casambi Pro is a game-changing solution designed specifically for lighting installations featuring complex, automated control systems that incorporate schedules, sensors, and switches. This cutting-edge tool is exceptionally well-suited for large sites with repetitive layouts, offering enhanced efficiency and a significant reduction in on-site technical configurations.

How does Casambi Pro work?

With Casambi Pro, lighting project configuration enters a new era, as most of the programming can now be executed offsite. This empowers commissioning engineers to manage intricate settings in advance, providing greater control over the final outcome and ensuring a focused and user-friendly experience.

The Casambi Pro suite consists of two components: The Casambi Pro Windows PC software for project planning and programming, and the Casambi Pro iPad software for on-site commissioning. The latter is used to easily identify Casambi-enabled devices onsite and seamlessly pair them using Bluetooth to a Casambi Pro project.

The Casambi team would like to inform its customers that the current-generation CBU-ASD has reached its end of life. The CBU-ASD is a wireless control unit for LED drivers with 0-10V, 1-10V or DALI dimming interface.

This product has reached the end of its product life cycle and will be discontinued.
  • The End of Sale date is September 30, 2023, from which time it will no longer be possible to purchase the product.  
  • The Last Customer Ship date is December 31, 2023.  
  • The CBU-ASD is replaced by CBU-ASD-LR. CBU-ASD-LR offers the exact same functionality as CBU-ASD as well as a long-range mode. 

CBU-ASD-LR is a wireless, long-range control unit for any type of driver with 0-10V, 1-10V or DALI dimming interface. The CBU-ASD-LR is available with either analog 0-10V (and 1-10V) or digital standalone DALI control interface. The CBU-ASD-LR incorporates a new Nordic Semiconductor SoC (nRF52840), which offers greater memory for Flash & RAM, and supports the latest Bluetooth 5 Specification to offer long-range and high throughput modes. The unit can achieve longer ranges than its predecessor, of up to 200 meters (650 feet) in real-world applications.

With standalone DALI output, CBU-ASD-LR acts both as a controller and power supply, making it possible to connect directly to an LED driver with DALI interface without needing an external DALI power supply. This so-called standalone DALI makes it possible to implement multi-channel lighting systems with adjustable color (RGB and RGBW) or color temperature (CCT), while keeping the wiring and number of components to a minimum.

The CBU-ASD-LR is controlled wirelessly with Casambi smartphone and tablet applications using Bluetooth 5.0 protocol. The Casambi App can be downloaded free of charge from Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

CBU-ASD-LR is a built-in class II device with SELV (Safety Extra-Low Voltage) output. This means that CBU-ASD-LR is a protection class II device which is designed to be used inside a light fixture.

Global smart lighting control company Casambi announced today the launch of three new product variants – CBU-TED-LR, CBU-ASD-LR and Casambi Xpress-LR – to offer long-range radio modes for robust wireless communication in vast spaces, outdoor applications, and certain complex lighting installations.

New chip, new long-range products for Casambi

In 2022, Casambi introduced a new chip, the CBM-003, which enables new radio modes and longer ranges of up to approximately 200 meters (650 feet) in real-world applications. Based upon Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF52840 SoC, this module offers lower energy consumption, greater memory for Flash & RAM, and supports the latest Bluetooth 5. Specification to offer long-range and high throughput modes. This has now been incorporated into three Casambi Bluetooth Units.

CBU-ASD-LR

The CBU-ASD-LR is a Bluetooth-controlled, long-range control unit for any type of driver with 0-10V, 1-10V, or DALI dimming interface. This is available with either analog 0-10V (and 1-10V) or digital Standalone DALI control interface. With standalone DALI output, the CBU-ASD-LR acts both as a controller and power supply, making it possible to connect directly to an LED driver with a DALI interface. With this unit, it’s possible to implement multi-channel lighting systems with adjustable color (RGB and RGBW) or color temperature (CCT), while keeping the wiring and the number of components to a minimum.

CBU-TED-LR

The CBU-TED-LR is a Bluetooth-controlled, long-range trailing edge dimmer for dimmable incandescent, halogen, LED lamps, and LED control gear. With this unit, any dimmable load can be easily converted to become a part of a Casambi mesh radio network. It can be installed behind a traditional wall switch, inside a luminaire, or into a ceiling outlet box. The CBU-TED-LR can also be converted to a mains-activated sensor device. When acting as a presence sensor, this device provides presence information to the mesh network when it is powered up.

Casambi Xpress-LR

The Casambi Xpress-LR is a Bluetooth-controlled, long-range user interface. This switch can be kept wherever the user needs it, providing direct access to all the important Casambi lighting control functionalities. It offers all the basic functions: Dim up, dim down, change color temperature in steps of 25 Kelvin, change indirect/direct ratio, control individual or luminaire groups, recall scenes and animations. Additionally, smarter functions, such as presets and multipurpose buttons, can be configured in the Casambi App.
