The LuxTran LED tunnel light is a specification-grade luminaire designed for supplemental lighting in underpasses, tunnels, and other transition zones. It is suitable for ceiling or wall orientation, providing consistent and reliable light distribution in critical safety areas. The fixture is ADA compliant for wall-mounted installations, ensuring accessibility and compliance with regulatory standards, and it comes backed by a 10-year limited product warranty, reflecting long-term reliability and quality. Its optical configurations are specifically optimized for tunnel applications, allowing precise control of light patterns with Type II, Pro-Beam, Type V-Narrow Round, and Type V Square distributions. The fixture accommodates either clear tempered glass (.187") or polycarbonate (.125") lenses, depending on project requirements.
The structural chassis of the LuxTran is constructed from 16-gauge Type 304 or Type 316 stainless steel, fabricated as a one-piece, seam-welded enclosure with a 2B finish and passivated post-welding for corrosion resistance. Mounting points are die-formed and welded from 14-gauge stainless steel, with custom mounting options available to match the tunnel structure. The doorframe is similarly built from stainless steel and includes safety cables that attach the frame to the chassis, with lockable rotary latches (locks provided separately) for secure access during maintenance. A one-piece extruded silicone gasket with molded corners ensures an effective environmental seal, providing protection against moisture, dust, and contaminants.
The LuxTran is powered by an integral driver paired with a serviceable high-brightness LED array. Electrical input options include 120–277 VAC or 277–480 VAC, 50/60Hz single-phase power. The fixture maintains a minimum of 70 CRI and supports standard 0–10V dimming with a 5–100% range and dim-to-dark capabilities at 0V. Maximum source currents are 200 μA for the 470L model and 100 μA for all other models. Electrical performance includes less than 20% total harmonic distortion, a power factor greater than 0.90, and minimum 90% efficiency. The system is EMC compliant under FCC 47 CFR Part 15, Class B and passes IEC 61000-4-4 EFT and IEC 61000-4-5 Class 4 surge evaluation, with a standard integral surge protector. A 3/4" conduit opening is standard, with additional trade-size openings available upon request.
Thermal management is handled by Type 413 marine-grade die-cast aluminum heat sinks, electrically insulated from the stainless steel chassis. These heat sinks are treated with coatings capable of withstanding either a 1,000-hour or 5,000-hour salt fog test per ASTM B117, ensuring longevity in harsh tunnel environments. Installation accommodates wall or ceiling orientation, with standard conduit entry on the back of the luminaire. The fixture operates in ambient temperatures ranging from -40°C to 40°C, with higher limits up to 55°C for the 90L/184L models and 50°C for the 280L model, with project-specific ratings available upon consultation.
The LuxTran LED tunnel light meets rigorous certification and performance standards. It is UL listed for wet locations by Intertek Testing Laboratory, carries an IP66 rating per IEC 60598, and is NEMA 4X rated for corrosion and water resistance. The luminaire has passed 3G vibration testing per ANSI C136.31 and complies with ANSI C136.27-2012 qualification tests. Additionally, it is compliant with the Build America, Buy America Act, making it suitable for federal infrastructure projects. Photometric performance has been verified to the IESNA LM-79-08 standard by an ILAC/ISO17025 accredited laboratory, confirming its suitability for tunnel lighting with controlled and uniform light distribution.
