The STR9® GEN4 COLOR CHANGING is the latest generation in the STR series of linear luminaires, designed specifically for architectural wall washing and grazing applications. Built on the award-winning COLOR-STREAM® platform, it offers exceptional performance and outstanding flexibility. This advanced luminaire supports communication speeds up to 16 times faster than traditional DMX protocols, enabling liquid-smooth dimming and pixel resolution down to 150 mm. Featuring GVA’s INFINITY® technology, the STR9® GEN4 can be configured for extremely long lighting circuits of up to 229 meters (751 feet), making it ideal for large-scale architectural lighting projects.
Compact in size, the luminaire measures just 64 mm in width by 72 mm in height, and delivers high power output of up to 20 watts per 300 mm (1 ft) segment, providing up to 750 lumens per segment. The integrated COLOR-AMP® technology ensures precise and consistent color control, while the COLOR-STREAM® platform enables high-speed communication at 6.25 Mbps, with a refresh rate up to 120 frames per second and 12-bit dimming resolution for smooth transitions. Power and data are transmitted through sealed push-lock connectors allowing for end-to-end wiring, and INFINITY® technology supports circuit lengths reaching 229 meters with leader or jumper cables of up to 100 meters.
Maintaining consistent LED pitch between luminaires eliminates dark spots, and an optional dual power selection allows field adjustment. The luminaire operates reliably across a wide temperature range from -40°C to +50°C (-40°F to +122°F), with built-in progressive thermal protection. It features a minimum beam angle of 10 degrees (FWHM) and is suitable for dry, damp, or wet environments, with IP66 or IP50 protection ratings depending on configuration.
STR9® GEN4 COLOR CHANGING luminaires are available in nominal lengths of 300, 600, 900, 1200, or 1500 mm (1 to 5 feet) with clear matte or black matte anodized finishes, and custom colors upon request. The LED options include RGB(W) or RGBA color-changing configurations, as well as white LEDs in various color temperatures ranging from 2700K to 6500K with three-step binning for color consistency. Color mixing is achieved either through inner mixing (IM) or by grouping LEDs into clusters (4L4). Optical options are impressively diverse, with 15 symmetrical and elliptical beam distributions to suit various design needs. For glare control, internal micro-louvers or external louvers can be included.
Power options per 300 mm segment include 5W, 10W, 15W, or 20W, with pixel resolutions of either 150 mm or 300 mm available. Input voltages cover a broad range, from low voltage INF (380 V DC) to multiple AC voltages including 277 V, 240 V, 230 V, 208 V, 120 V, and 100 V AC. Control protocols supported by the luminaire via GVA’s Power-Data Converter PDC-GEN5 include Art-Net 4, sACN, DMX-512A, and DALI 2, providing flexible integration into complex lighting control systems.
The luminaire is built to withstand harsh conditions and intense vibration environments, meeting ANSI C136.31-2018 standards, making it suitable for installations on bridges, overpasses, and other demanding architectural structures. Circuit-level surge protection of 6 KV/3 KA is standard, with options to increase to 12 KV/6 KA or 20 KV/10 KA for enhanced resilience.
The STR9® GEN4 COLOR CHANGING delivers flicker-free lighting with a dimming range from 100% down to 0.02%, using a 12-bit dimming resolution with 4,096 micro-steps per color channel. It supports high-frequency dimming up to 40 kHz to avoid flicker in high-speed video applications and eliminates audible noise throughout the dimming range. The dimming curve is configurable to match the human eye’s perception of brightness changes, ensuring smooth, natural transitions. Additionally, luminaires can be recalibrated in the field to different power settings, such as 10W or 15W, without sacrificing dimming resolution.
