Martin MAC Aura XB: Flicker-Free RGBW LED Moving Head Wash for Stage, Broadcast and Studio Lighting

The MAC Aura XB elevates the legacy of Martin’s award-winning compact LED wash light by integrating enhanced features first seen in the MAC Quantum Wash™. This upgraded fixture delivers increased brightness and introduces a new, advanced color mixing system paired with an optimized lens design. The result is tighter beams and more uniform washes, enhancing both impact and precision. It also retains Martin’s patented Eye-candy Aura Effect™, a distinctive visual feature that adds dynamic appeal to any lighting design.

Designed for versatility and performance, the MAC Aura XB is a super-bright, single-lens wash fixture that offers fully premixed color output in a lightweight, compact format. It’s engineered for efficiency with low power consumption and an extended service life. The beam engine includes 19 RGBW 15W LEDs, while the Aura backlight features 30 RGB 0.3W LEDs, delivering a powerful 6,000-lumen output with high narrow-beam intensity reaching 220,000 cd. With Martin’s Full Gamut Color Calibration, it ensures color consistency and flicker-free operation across all camera applications.

The unit’s optical system produces a tight beam and a rich, even wash field with a zoom range from 9.0° to 59.1°. This silent and responsive zoom mechanism supports high-intensity mid-air effects with minimal color temperature shift across the beam. An optional softlens accessory further enhances performance by softening beam edges and reducing glare, and it can remain attached inside the fixture’s flight case for convenience.

Color capabilities are extensive, offering RGBW mixing with rich saturated tones, subtle pastels, and crisp whites. The MAC Aura XB supports Calibrated, Extended, and Raw Color Modes, a Virtual Color Wheel, and calibrated color temperature control ranging from 2,500 to 10,000 K. These features provide precise and flexible color control suited to a wide range of lighting environments.

Dynamic effects include built-in FX macros and high-speed pan, tilt, and zoom. The cooling system is ultra-quiet and paired with low-noise movement mechanics, making the fixture suitable for environments where silence is critical. Construction-wise, the MAC Aura XB is compact and robust, weighing just 6.5 kg and measuring 302 x 332 x 163 mm.

Control is handled via a rear-mounted panel, with DMX in/out and RDM support. The fixture provides numerous beam and aura effect options, such as continuous dimming, strobe and pulse effects, multiple dimming curves, and virtual color wheels with 33 preset colors. Beam movement includes motorized 540° pan and 232° tilt, and zoom is motorized with a 1:6 ratio. The fixture also includes synchronized or independent pre-programmed FX combinations for beam and aura.

Programming options are extensive, supporting DMX and RDM protocols with both Standard and Extended DMX modes (14 or 25 channels). Pan and tilt are 16-bit controllable, and settings can be adjusted via the onboard menu or through RDM. The unit features a backlit LCD interface and is compatible with USITT DMX512-A and ANSI/ESTA E1.20 standards, with firmware updates available through Martin Companion.

The fixture’s 200 mm front lens and precise zoom optics deliver impressive photometric performance. With a luminous output of up to 10,000 lumens and a peak intensity of 220,000 cd, it delivers powerful visual impact. Its variable CCT (2,500–10,000 K), CRI of ≥ 67, and color metrics such as TM-30 Rf ≥ 76 and Rg ≥ 119 ensure high-quality light output. LED refresh rates are 1,200 Hz (beam) and 4,395 Hz (aura), suitable for all camera types.

Constructed from high-impact, flame-retardant thermoplastic, the MAC Aura XB is built to withstand professional use. It carries an IP20 rating for indoor use and can be mounted in any orientation, with a minimum clearance of 0.2 meters from combustible materials and 1 meter from illuminated surfaces. Power and data connections include Neutrik powerCON TRUE1 and 5-pin XLR for DMX and RDM.

The power supply supports 100–240 V AC at 50/60 Hz with auto-ranging switch-mode operation. Maximum power consumption is 400 W, with typical draw at 359 W and idle at 25 W. Power factor and inrush current vary by voltage, optimized for efficiency. Thermal management is handled via a forced-air cooling system with temperature regulation and user-definable noise levels. Operating temperatures range from 5°C to 40°C, with total heat dissipation around 1,230 BTU/hr.
