Martin ERA 150 Wash: Compact LED Moving Head with High Output & Full-Gamut Color Control for Theatres, Concerts & Events

The Martin ERA 150 Wash is a powerful moving-head LED wash fixture that delivers class-leading performance in a compact, road-ready design. With its high-output 3,900-lumen engine, full-gamut color calibration, and tight zoom optics, it is engineered for versatility across touring, theatrical, installation, and corporate event applications. Featuring advanced color control and white-point adjustment capabilities, the ERA 150 Wash supports precise, consistent color reproduction—ideal for professional lighting designers who demand both creative freedom and reliable accuracy.

At the heart of the fixture is a newly developed 7 x 40W RGBW LED engine that achieves twice the brightness of earlier compact wash heads. This significant boost in output allows it to cover larger venues and longer throw distances while maintaining a uniform, wide-area wash. The optical system has also been redesigned to offer a broader zoom range with beam angles as tight as 4.2°, generating a focused center intensity of nearly 398,000 candela—perfect for dramatic mid-air effects and saturated color washes. The zoom extends to 58°, allowing seamless transitions between narrow beams and wide washes depending on the creative need.

Built for demanding environments, the ERA 150 Wash is housed in a lightweight yet durable chassis that includes a USB-based firmware update system and a battery-powered display for ease of use on the road. Its whisper-quiet Theatre mode operates at just 33 dB, making it highly suitable for low-noise applications such as theatrical performances or televised events. The fixture includes a high-efficiency cooling system and supports user-defined noise levels for maximum control.

Color reproduction is enhanced through Martin’s full-gamut color calibration system, which ensures consistency from unit to unit. This system includes a dedicated color temperature control channel with a wide adjustable range from 1,800 K to 12,850 K, allowing for precise white point tuning. Users can choose between raw, extended, or calibrated color management modes depending on the level of control and color fidelity required.

The ERA 150 Wash also offers dynamic functionality through high-speed pan, tilt, and zoom movement, RGBW color mixing, and a virtual color wheel with 48 preset color options. Effects include variable-speed strobing, pulsing, random strobe, and multiple dimming curves, giving designers extensive creative flexibility. The fixture’s 16-bit control across dimming, zoom, color mixing, and movement allows for smooth, nuanced transitions and cueing.

Control options are robust, with compatibility for DMX and RDM protocols. The unit features 18 DMX channels and supports both local addressing via an LCD control panel and remote configuration through RDM. Firmware updates can be performed via USB or DMX, making it easy to keep systems up to date across large lighting fleets.

The optical performance is backed by a long-life LED engine rated at over 50,000 hours. Beam angles range from a sharp 4.2° to a generous 58.6°, with tight color and flux binning ensuring output quality and color fidelity. The photometric data confirms its superior brightness and beam control, delivering 3,900 lumens at wide zoom and nearly 1,800 lumens in its narrowest setting. The fixture also performs well on-camera, with LED refresh rates of 3,600 Hz in standard mode and up to 19,200 Hz in Theatre mode, reducing flicker in broadcast environments.

Structurally, the ERA 150 Wash features a flame-retardant thermoplastic housing rated IP20 for indoor use. It includes standard Neutrik PowerCON TRUE1 TOP connectors for power in/out and 5-pin XLR connectors for DMX and RDM data. The fixture supports universal AC input (100–240V) with auto-ranging and low power draw, consuming just 315 watts at full output. It also supports a low-energy hibernation mode that draws only 5 watts when idle.

The fixture is designed for flexible installation, with multiple mounting options and orientation support. It requires minimal clearance and offers reliable heat dissipation with a maximum ambient operating temperature of 40°C (104°F). The ERA 150 Wash combines professional-grade output, precise color control, and rugged build quality—making it an essential tool for designers seeking both performance and portability.
