The Quad is a sleek, recessed ceiling luminaire designed to bring both functionality and visual sophistication to interior spaces. Featuring a body crafted from white lacquered steel and adorned with an elegant decorative ring available in chrome or white lacquer, Quad is more than just a conventional downlight. Its unique design flares outward at the base, creating an upward reflection of light that adds dimension and ambiance to a room while providing even and well-dimmed illumination. According to Kristian Andréason of Andréason and Leibel, the creative minds behind Quad for ateljé Lyktan, the concept was to design a downlight that does more than disappear into the ceiling. “Normally downlights don’t do much for the experience of a space, but we wanted to make an impact with this light,” Andréason explains.
The latest generation of Quad incorporates tool-free installation using mounting springs, making it quick and easy to install in ceilings with thicknesses ranging from 1 to 55 mm. The luminaire comes with a separate driver box connected by a 0.5-meter cable, and the system supports through-wiring for convenient electrical connections. It is delivered with a 2.5-meter halogen-free connection cable (5G0.75 mm²) with free leads. For installations in soft ceilings or acoustic tiles made from mineral wool, a mounting plate is available as an accessory and does not increase the luminaire's height. In cases where tiles are supported on only two sides, a suspension attachment is recommended to prevent stress and bending. This accessory is designed to work with adjustable pendulums from the ceiling tile supplier, ensuring secure and stable installation.
Quad is available with a choice of diffusers to suit different lighting needs. You can opt for opal acrylic glass to create a wide, even beam, or a microprismatic acrylic glass combined with optical film from BrightView for more precise light control and reduced glare. For environments with elevated hygiene requirements, the Quad Hygiene version features a light opening covered by tempered safety glass and supports cleaning with alcohol-based solutions.
The luminaire utilizes a high-performance LED light source available in 3000K or 4000K color temperatures. The standard version offers a minimum CRI of 80, with CRI 90 available upon request. The Quad Hygiene model is supplied with a CRI of at least 90 as standard. Both versions boast a long lifespan rated at L100B10 60,000 hours. Energy efficiency classes for the LED sources comply with EU Regulation 2019/2015, falling under Class D for CRI 80 (830/840) and Class E for CRI 90 (930/940).
Quad is equipped with a DSI/DALI driver that enables 1–100% dimming and supports features such as SwitchDim and CorridorFunction. The driver includes a pre-programmed Constant Light Output (CLO) function, which maintains consistent lighting levels throughout the product’s lifetime and achieves up to 10% energy savings compared to standard L80-rated luminaires. The driver itself offers an extended lifespan of up to 100,000 hours.
Available in two sizes, the Quad 260 weighs 1.6 kg and the larger Quad 430 weighs 3.15 kg. For enhanced installation security and performance, especially in demanding ceiling environments, recommended accessories include mounting plates and pendulum mounts. These ensure the luminaire remains securely positioned without compromising ceiling integrity.
