Direct View Color-Changing Modular Linear LED Fixture for Dynamic Architectural Facade Lighting

The HL-GEN4 COLOR CHANGING is the fourth-generation modular LED lighting system in GVA's HIGHLIGHTER® series, designed for direct view or accent architectural lighting. This advanced system is built on GVA’s award-winning COLOR-STREAM® platform, offering communication speeds up to 6.25 Mbps—up to 16 times faster than DMX—along with a 120 Hz refresh rate and ultra-smooth, 12-bit dimming. Incorporating GVA’s proprietary INFINITY® technology, HL-GEN4-COLOR-CHANGING supports impressively long lighting circuits of up to 2,000 modules or 600 meters (1,968 feet) on a single run, giving designers unprecedented scalability and control for complex installations.

Each module in the HL-GEN4 COLOR CHANGING system is precision engineered for pixel-level control, available with either 150 mm (6 in) or 300 mm (12 in) addressable pixel resolutions. Configurations include RGBW clusters or in-line arrangements to optimize color mixing or optical performance. LED layouts feature either 16 clustered RGB(W) LEDs per foot for best visual blending or 12 in-line RGB(W) LEDs for use with 30° or 60° optics. These options support a variety of color-changing configurations, including RGBW (3000K, 4000K, or 5000K white) and RGBA. Available beam angles of 20°, 30°, 60°, and 120° further enhance the fixture’s versatility for tailored visual impact.

The modules are available in lengths ranging from 150 mm to 1,200 mm (0.5 to 4 feet) and offer power consumption options from 2 W to 5 W per foot. With a projected LED lifetime of L70 B50: 115,000 hours at 23°C, these fixtures are built for long-term performance. The Color-Amp® technology embedded in each module ensures maximum luminous output by dynamically utilizing all available power across channels to amplify color brightness. Moreover, LED pitch is meticulously maintained both within and between modules, eliminating dark spots and ensuring continuous visual uniformity.

Mechanically, the HL-GEN4 COLOR CHANGING modules feature a flame-retardant UL94-5VA polymeric body, sealed IP66-rated construction, and optically clear polycarbonate lenses. Through-wiring is enabled via IP68-rated sealed push-lock connectors, supporting efficient end-to-end power and data distribution. Mounting options include fixed profiles or adjustable brackets, allowing adaptability to a wide range of architectural forms. White or black finishes are available for both the module bodies and PCBs to complement various design aesthetics.

The control system is highly flexible, supporting Art-Net 4, sACN, DMX-512A, DALI 2, and 0–10V (for monochromatic setups) through GVA’s Power-Data Converter PDC-GEN5. The system delivers exceptional dimming capabilities with 12-bit resolution—providing 4,096 micro-steps per color channel—and a dimming frequency equivalent of up to 40 kHz, ensuring flicker-free output suitable for human visual comfort and high-speed video capture. The dimming range extends from 100% to as low as 0.02%, with a perceptual curve that mirrors the human eye’s brightness sensitivity, and the entire dimming range remains silent, free from audible noise.

Designed for durability and performance, HL-GEN4 COLOR CHANGING is rated for -40°C to +50°C operation and is tested to ANSI C136.31-2018 standards for high-vibration environments such as bridges and overpasses. With support for up to 4,560 pixels per PDC-GEN5 and seamless field reconfiguration of power settings without dimming loss, this solution offers unmatched flexibility and reliability for modern architectural lighting applications across dry, damp, or wet locations.
