DALI Network Controllers for Hybrid Lighting Applications with Bluetooth Mesh Technology for Extended Communication Range

The Salvador Series 2000 DALI controller product family consists of three models, each tailored to different network sizes and project requirements. The smallest model can address up to 16 DALI driver addresses, the mid-range model supports up to 32 drivers, and the largest model accommodates the full capacity of 64 DALI drivers. These controllers seamlessly integrate wired DALI drivers into the Casambi wireless network, enabling DALI luminaires to appear as fully controllable luminaires within the Casambi system. The controllers are compatible with key industry standards, including DALI D4i, DALI DT6, and DALI DT8, ensuring broad applicability across a wide range of lighting installations. It is important to note that these controllers are intended exclusively for connecting to DALI drivers, and no additional DALI master units should be connected to the system. Each Salvador Series 2000 controller includes an integrated 130 mA bus power supply to support reliable DALI operation.

The controllers allow addressing, programming, and control of individual wired DALI drivers through the Casambi App, making it possible to create hybrid networks that integrate both Casambi Ready and wired DALI devices. All DALI drivers connected to a Salvador controller can be managed in the same intuitive manner as Casambi Ready devices through the app, eliminating the need for complex configuration software or specialized DALI knowledge. The smallest model is ideal for cost-conscious renovation projects that replace multiple standalone DALI networks, while the largest model is suited for extensive hybrid network setups.

Within a Casambi network, each Salvador controller functions as a single Casambi node, and each addressed DALI driver also represents an individual node. Casambi networks can include up to 250 nodes in total, allowing for flexible and scalable lighting networks. Wired DALI luminaires appear in the Casambi App in the same way as Casambi Ready devices, enabling individual control, grouping, or inclusion in scenes that combine both device types. This setup provides users with consistent and intuitive wireless control via the Casambi App, which is available free of charge on iOS and Android devices.

Electrically, the Salvador Series 2000 controllers operate within a voltage range of 100–277 VAC at 50/60 Hz, with a maximum mains current of 70 mA and an inrush current of 20 A. The DALI output provides 12–15 VDC, a guaranteed current of 130 mA, a maximum current of 200 mA, and a shutdown current of less than 4 mA. Wireless communication is facilitated through a radio transceiver operating at 2402–2480 MHz, with a maximum output power of +8 dBm. The controllers are capable of functioning in ambient temperatures from -20 °C to +50 °C, with a maximum case temperature of 55 °C and storage temperatures ranging from -25 °C to +75 °C. Maximum relative humidity is 80%, non-condensing. Each unit is equipped with a real-time clock that provides a minimum backup time of 12 hours.

Mechanically, the controllers measure 106.0 x 67.0 x 28.0 mm without strain relief and weigh 100 g. They are rated IP20 for indoor use only, with reinforced insulation between casing and DALI circuits. The connectors accept solid or flexible wires ranging from 0.2 to 1.5 mm² (AWG 16–24) with a wire strip length of 9 mm. The Salvador Series 2000 controllers hold CE and RCM certifications, ensuring compliance with international safety and performance standards. Collectively, these features make the Salvador Series 2000 an effective solution for integrating wired DALI drivers into Casambi networks, supporting both small renovation projects and larger hybrid lighting setups with scalable, intuitive wireless control.
