The Cree Essentia® S-DL Series LED Downlights are designed to offer reliable, high-quality illumination with exceptional value, making them a strong choice for both new construction and renovation applications. This versatile portfolio includes 4″ and 6″ round downlights offered in a variety of lumen packages and color temperatures. Each fixture is equipped with a premium semi-specular reflector finish and a selection of trim colors to match a range of interior aesthetics. These downlights are well-suited for non-insulated ceilings or locations where insulation can be kept at least 3 inches from the housing. Essentia® Series downlights deliver crisp, color-accurate 90+ CRI light with efficacy levels reaching up to 78 lumens per watt. The light output ranges from 891 to 3,311 lumens, with input power between 12 and 42 watts depending on the configuration. Available in both 3500K and 4000K color temperatures and offered with medium or wide beam angles, these fixtures ensure design flexibility while providing energy-efficient illumination. Rated for a lifetime of 50,000 hours, they also support advanced dimming capabilities, including 0-10V dimming down to 1% and Triac dimming to 10%.
Constructed with durability in mind, the downlights feature heavy-gauge formed steel housings and semi-specular clear reflector/flange finishes as standard. A range of alternate reflector and flange colors is also available. For installation flexibility, the light engine, optics, and driver are all accessible from below the ceiling, and mounting brackets can be adjusted from either side. The housing includes ten 1/2" and two 3/4" knockouts with pry-outs, eight knockouts with Romex® cable clamps, and supports ceilings up to 1-3/8" thick.
The electrical system operates with a high power factor (>0.9) and low total harmonic distortion (<20%), and supports 120–277V at 50/60Hz. These luminaires can operate in temperatures ranging from 0°C to +35°C (32°F to +95°F). Control compatibility includes standard Triac dimming and 0/1–10V dimming using a DC control protocol with a source current of 1.00mA. For proper operation, the control system must either include a neutral connection or be suitable for use with LED luminaires. Reference sheets are available for recommended dimming controls.
The Essentia® S-DL Series is cULus listed and damp-location rated, but designed strictly for indoor use. It supports thru-wiring with 8#12AWG-90°C conductors and complies with thermal protection requirements for NON-IC housings in accordance with NEC Article 410 and UL 1598 standards. Additionally, the series meets FCC Part 15, Subpart B, Class A limits for conducted and radiated emissions and is RoHS compliant.
