The MedMaster ambient/reading and indirect exam light is a versatile ceiling-mounted luminaire suitable for patient room applications. It is available in 2'×2' sizes and can be installed in recessed grid, recessed flange, or surface mount configurations, offering flexibility to suit a variety of ceiling types. The luminaire provides both ambient lighting for general room use and indirect exam lighting, while the Ingress Barrier (IB) Door creates a consistent, smooth surface that facilitates cleaning and infection control. This makes the fixture particularly appropriate for healthcare environments requiring high sanitation standards.
The luminaire housing is constructed from heavy-duty extruded aluminum with a clear satin anodized finish. Two IB Doorframe options are available: the Ingress Barrier with Aircraft Cables (IB-AC), which provides NSF2 listing, or an optional continuous hinged doorframe (IB-HD). The door is secured to the housing using Phillips-head stainless steel fasteners—eight with the IB-AC option and two with IB-HD. A closed-cell extruded gasket seals the lens frame to the housing, ensuring durability and protection from ingress. The fixture is designed for long-term performance and easy maintenance in demanding healthcare environments.
Electrically, the luminaire is available in 3500K, 4000K, and 5000K color temperatures with a standard 82 CRI. It operates on 120–277VAC at 50/60Hz using a serviceable high-power-factor electronic constant-current driver with less than 20% total harmonic distortion and a power factor greater than 0.95. Standard 0–10V dimming allows a 1–100% output range, with a maximum driver source current of 500 μA. Exam area wiring is NEC compliant, with an isolated compartment for auxiliary branch circuit feeds. Optional low-voltage control (LVCD) allows patient interface for independent dimming of the ambient function and independent control of the exam function without dimming. All ballasts are rapid start, and fluorescent lamp options are available upon consultation with the factory.
The housing for flange and grid mount versions is constructed from 20-gauge CRS with a one-piece seam-welded design, while surface-mount housings are fabricated from 18-gauge CRS. All housings are finished with a white TGIC polyester powder coat applied over a five-stage pre-treatment, achieving a 1,000-hour salt spray resistance and 92% reflectance. Optional antimicrobial finishes are available. Flange components are 18-gauge CRS for added strength and durability.
Installation depends on the mounting type: surface-mount installations require four 0.312" diameter holes, grid-mount housings are compatible with 1" and 1.5" grids and include hanging brackets to secure the fixture with wire to the superstructure, and flange-mount versions include yoke mounting hardware and brackets. Both install and plaster frames positively locate the yoke brackets within the ceiling opening, ensuring precise fixture alignment without the need for additional drywall backing. Backing is supplied on the frame brackets for added stability.
Lamp shielding consists of a frosted linear high-impact prismatic acrylic center shield for ambient light, flanked by perforated aluminum baskets with pearlescent acrylic diffusers on each side. All metal components are finished with white TGIC polyester powder coat. The lens is supplied with either the IB-AC or IB-HD options and consists of 0.125" clear high-impact acrylic, sealed to the extruded aluminum frame with a vinyl gasket to maintain ingress protection and durability.
The luminaire is UL and CUL listed for wet location applications and certified to IP65 standards per IEC 60598. The IB-AC version additionally holds NSF2 Splash/Non-Food Zone certification, ensuring compliance with stringent healthcare hygiene and sanitation requirements. This combination of versatile mounting options, durable construction, independent ambient and exam lighting, and rigorous certification makes the MedMaster 2'×2' ambient/reading and indirect exam light a highly suitable solution for patient room applications.
