If the output load exceeds the driver’s maximum power rating, the driver sequentially scales down the current until the load is within limits. Reverse polarity will prevent the driver from yielding current, which protects the driver while potentially impacting the LED load.
Thermal protection can also be enhanced using an external NTC thermistor placed on a PCB near the LEDs, connected via the LEDcode/NTC terminals. When the NTC exceeds the maximum allowable temperature, the output current to the LEDs is reduced by 75%. Users can specify the temperature limit via FluxTool software, with a default NTC temperature limit set to 70°C. Suitable thermistor options include Vishay leaded (P/N 238164063473) and screw (P/N NTCASCWE3473J) models, providing additional safety and thermal regulation for sensitive LED installations.
