The PIXEL-GEN2 Color-Changing series represents the next evolution in GVA Lighting’s direct-view LED technology. Designed for dynamic color effects, low-resolution image displays, and large-scale media façades, PIXEL-GEN2 builds upon the award-winning COLOR-STREAM® platform to offer significantly enhanced performance. This next-generation solution delivers ultra-fast communication—16 times faster than traditional DMX—enabling real-time responsiveness and exceptionally smooth dimming. Integrated INFINITY® technology allows for lighting circuits of up to 1,565 individual PIXELs, streamlining scalability for complex architectural and architainment lighting installations.
Each PIXEL-GEN2 module incorporates a single RGB(W) cluster of four LEDs and is available in color configurations such as RGBW30K, RGBW40K, and RGBW50K. Control is achieved via GVA’s Power-Data Converter PDC-GEN5, which supports protocols like Art-Net 4, sACN, DMX-512A, and DALI 2. The proprietary COLOR-STREAM® protocol enables communication speeds up to 6.25 Mbps, refresh rates of up to 120 frames per second, and a 12-bit dimming resolution, translating to smooth and precise control over color and brightness transitions. The modules operate at a maximum of 2.5 watts per unit, with power options available in ELV (48VDC) or INF (380VDC) configurations.
PIXEL-GEN2 is designed for harsh environments, with an IP66 rating for dry, damp, or wet locations, and a wide operating temperature range from –40°C to +50°C (–40°F to 122°F). Modules are encased in a UL94-5VA flame-retardant polymeric body and feature a PMMA clear lens that resists UV-induced yellowing, ensuring long-term optical clarity. The system supports multiple lens styles including flat or frosted lenses and frosted round domes, with body and PCB finishes in either black or white. Custom pitch lengths are available in 25 mm increments up to 1000 mm, and modules can be configured in strings of 1 to 5 PIXELs or any custom quantity.
A hallmark of the PIXEL-GEN2 system is its robust mechanical and electrical design. Power and data are delivered via through-wiring using sealed IP68 push-lock connectors, with support for jumper or leader cables up to 100 meters (328 feet) in length. The built-in COLOR-AMP® technology ensures consistent, accurate color output across the entire installation. Dimming capabilities are equally advanced, with a 12-bit resolution offering 4,096 micro-steps per color channel, dimming range from 100% to an ultra-low 0.02%, and a 40 kHz effective dimming frequency for flicker-free performance in both human and high-speed video applications.
Cable systems used with PIXEL-GEN2 are engineered for reliability and durability, rated for sun exposure, hard usage, and compliant with major safety standards including CE, UL, and CSA. The standard cable consists of two 14 AWG power wires and two 24 AWG twisted-pair communication wires, with a black jacket and operating temperature ranges from -40°C to +90°C dry and -40°C to +75°C wet. The modular design and multiple mounting options, including fixed profiles and adjustable brackets, allow for flexible deployment in a wide variety of architectural contexts.
With a surface brightness of 3,300 cd/m² and a projected lifetime of 115,000 hours (L70 B50 @ 23°C), the PIXEL-GEN2 series delivers a durable, scalable, and visually impactful solution for dynamic façade lighting and digital media surfaces.
