The CBM-003B/C is a Class 2 embedded Bluetooth module developed for seamless integration into LED drivers, lighting control systems, fixtures, and LED bulbs. Pre-installed with Casambi’s proprietary firmware, the module ensures complete interoperability with all Casambi-enabled devices. This embedded control unit enables wireless communication using the Bluetooth protocol, allowing lighting systems to be managed through the Casambi app available for both iOS and Android devices. Once installed, all Casambi-compatible devices automatically form a self-healing and self-organizing mesh network, enabling robust and flexible control of a large number of luminaires without the need for an external gateway.

Powered by a 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M4 processor, the CBM-003B/C integrates a 2.4 GHz transceiver with a built-in antenna, providing reliable connectivity and efficient performance. The module includes 12 general-purpose input/output (GPIO) pins that can be individually configured to handle a range of external components such as motion sensors, light detectors, and pulse width modulation (PWM) circuits. These pins support SPI, TWI (I²C compatible), UART, and analog-to-digital converter (ADC) functions. Four of the GPIO pins are dedicated analog inputs for voltage measurement or sensor input, while the remaining pins can be freely assigned for other communication or control purposes. The CBM-003B/C’s configuration flexibility makes it suitable for diverse lighting applications, from single-channel LED drivers to multi-color light sources and smart sensor modules.

The CBM-003B/C is built on the Nordic nRF52840 chipset, known for its strong radio performance and efficient operation. It supports both standard-drive (2 mA) and high-drive (9 mA) GPIO outputs, enabling optimized control of connected circuits. For frequencies exceeding 10 kHz or for applications requiring higher drive current, the high-drive GPIO pins must be used to prevent any degradation of radio performance. Each GPIO pin can function as an input or output and is equipped with configurable internal pull-up or pull-down resistors, interrupt triggering for rising or falling edges, and buffered input capabilities.

In addition to digital control, the CBM-003B/C supports analog input and output through its integrated ADC and PWM functionality. The ADC is capable of 8-bit or 12-bit resolution, automatically selected based on application requirements, and supports voltage inputs between 0 and 3.6 volts. These inputs can be used for tasks such as ambient light measurement, voltage monitoring, or sensor feedback. The PWM system can operate up to 40 kHz and support eight simultaneous channels, making it suitable for dimming or analog signal simulation through external RC filters. Both PWM frequency and resolution can be adjusted, providing precise control of LED brightness or color intensity in multi-channel lighting configurations.

Casambi’s control ecosystem enhances the functionality of the CBM-003B/C module, allowing wireless management and configuration without additional hardware. The Casambi mesh network is automatically established by all connected devices, ensuring reliable communication across large installations. Firmware updates are handled over-the-air (OTA), while configuration of GPIO mapping, PWM setup, and input assignments can be adjusted through the Casambi Admin web tool without requiring any reprogramming of the device. The Casambi system supports cloud services, timers, sensors, and a range of user interfaces such as wall switches and mobile apps, making it one of the most flexible wireless lighting control platforms available.

Physically, the CBM-003B/C module is compact, measuring only 12.7 mm x 20.0 mm x 2.8 mm, and can be mounted in either a horizontal or vertical orientation depending on project needs. Despite its small footprint, it achieves robust wireless performance, with a communication range of up to 400 meters in line-of-sight conditions. It supports up to +7 dBm transmit power, -95 dBm receive sensitivity in standard mode, and an extended -103 dBm sensitivity in long-range mode. The module also supports DALI-2 (CMOS levels) and 0-10V control compatibility, enabling integration with a broad range of lighting control protocols.

Ideal applications for the CBM-003B/C include LED drivers—both single and multi-channel—intelligent lighting control systems, light fixtures, and single or multi-color LED bulbs. It is also suitable for sensor integration, enabling functions such as occupancy detection, daylight harvesting, or color temperature adjustment. The CBM-003B/C thus serves as a compact, flexible, and high-functionality solution for manufacturers and developers looking to add reliable wireless Bluetooth control capabilities to lighting products within the Casambi ecosystem.
