BIOS SkyBlue™ Biological Dynamic Circadian Lighting is a scientifically developed lighting solution created to support 24-hour operations, enhancing alertness, focus, and circadian health even during nighttime hours. It is specifically intended for environments where people work beyond typical daylight hours—such as offices, healthcare facilities, industrial spaces, hospitality venues, and 24-hour operations—requiring alertness and cognitive performance long after dark.

SkyBlue Dynamic balances biological effectiveness and visual comfort by adjusting both light intensity and spectrum through a single-channel Bio-Dimming™ module or a two-channel control system. As the light dims, it transitions smoothly from a high-melanopic daytime spectrum rich in BIOS’s patented 490nm “SkyBlue” wavelength to a lower-melanopic evening spectrum with no 490nm content. This 500K shift maintains task-appropriate brightness and visual clarity without excessive warmth, avoiding the productivity drop associated with dim-to-warm systems that reach 2700K.

The result is biologically optimized circadian lighting that supports both wakefulness and rest cycles. During the day, SkyBlue Dynamic delivers high-melanopic light that stimulates melanopsin-sensitive ipRGCs in the eye—non-visual receptors responsible for circadian regulation, mood, and cognitive function. As the system dims, it removes the 490nm wavelength to support the body’s natural evening readiness phase while preserving visual brightness suitable for continued work or social activity. This makes SkyBlue Dynamic ideal for shift workers, healthcare providers, long-term care residents, hospitality staff, and anyone active through the night.

BIOS SkyBlue Dynamic Lighting operates through simple and flexible control options. When paired with the BIOS Bio-Dimming™ Module, the system integrates both intensity and spectral adjustments over a single control channel. This allows easy implementation into existing electrical infrastructures without the need for complex or proprietary systems. The Bio-Dimming™ Module connects directly to a constant current (CC) LED driver and interfaces with all standard control protocols, including 0–10V, DMX, DALI, ELV, Wireless, and Lutron systems.

SkyBlue Dynamic Light Engines are available in three correlated color temperature options, each designed for smooth circadian transitions: 3000K dimming to 2700K, 3500K dimming to 3000K, and 4000K dimming to 3500K. In each case, the daytime mode provides full 490nm content for maximum biological impact, while the evening mode removes the SkyBlue component to achieve a lower melanopic effect.

For example, the 3500K LED source offers a daytime spectrum with a 490nm peak and a daytime melanopic ratio (m-EER) of at least 0.80 or (m-DER) of at least 0.72, with CRI 80+ and R9 > 90. In the evening spectrum, dimming to 3000K results in a maximum melanopic ratio (m-EER) of 0.49 or (m-DER) of 0.44. Similarly, the 4000K source provides a daytime melanopic ratio of at least 0.90 (m-EER) or 0.81 (m-DER), transitioning to a 3500K evening spectrum with reduced melanopic ratios of 0.57 (m-EER) and 0.51 (m-DER), while maintaining excellent color rendering.

Unlike typical “tunable white” or “mood lighting” systems that adjust color temperature for aesthetic preference, BIOS SkyBlue Dynamic focuses on biological function. It maintains melanopic integrity, supports the body’s circadian rhythms, and helps prevent fatigue in environments that require consistent alertness and mental performance. By avoiding overly warm, visually dim lighting, BIOS Dynamic ensures a biologically sound light environment without compromising comfort or task visibility.
