At the heart of the Slim Pendant is Axis Lighting’s proprietary SurroundLite™ technology, featuring a patented lightguide design that produces visually comfortable, non-Lambertian illumination. This optical innovation offers a three-dimensional spherical batwing light distribution, casting soft, uniform light that mimics daylight. By spreading light across ceilings, corners, and walls, SurroundLite reduces ceiling contrast, enhances brightness perception, and improves overall visual comfort. The result is a well-lit environment with fewer luminaires needed, thanks to wide spacing and efficient light coverage.
Constructed with high-precision PMMA optics, the lightguide system employs coded and aligned molecules that shape LED output in three dimensions, pushing light uniformly in all directions. The optical assembly ensures soft diffusion without streaks or hotspots, maximizing color uniformity through in-plane mixing and eliminating harsh glare. The regressed lens design, coupled with optional VL optics, frosted acrylic lenses, and flat-blade louvers, further enhances comfort by minimizing luminance on the light-emitting surface. A semi-specular aluminum material adds another layer of visual refinement to the lighting effect.
Beyond aesthetic and optical sophistication, the Slim Pendant delivers meaningful functionality. It reduces the "cave effect" by illuminating ceiling-wall seams and projecting light into room corners and adjacent spaces. Vertical planes are lit effectively, improving facial modeling and recognition while creating soft fill light that enhances occupant visibility and comfort. This type of lighting distribution is also highly effective for open ceilings and shorter run lengths arranged in checkerboard patterns, making it a practical choice for a variety of space layouts.
Engineered for both performance and durability, the Slim Pendant is built with a robust extruded aluminum housing, die-cast aluminum end caps and joiners, and cold-rolled steel top covers. Interior brackets are made from die-formed zintec steel, contributing to a rigid and reliable structure. The fixture’s thermal management system relies on its aluminum housing to dissipate heat, ensuring long life for its LED components. Designed for indoor use in dry and damp locations, the luminaire operates in ambient temperatures from 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F).
The Slim Pendant offers extensive control compatibility and flexibility. Driver options include Lutron Hi-lume 1% EcoSystem (LDE1), DALI (Types 6 and 8), DMX, Xitanium SR for wireless sensors, and a variety of tunable white systems including DPTW, LDTW, and others. Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) capabilities are supported through MOLEX, IGOR, and SMARTENGINE systems, and UL2108 certification ensures safety with integral or remote driver configurations. Emergency lighting options are also available via integral battery packs or emergency circuits.
Color quality and consistency are built into every Slim Pendant. Choose from 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, and 4000K color temperatures, all with a minimum CRI of 80 or 90 and consistent within a 3-step MacAdam ellipse, both fixture-to-fixture and within a single fixture. Axis also offers Axitune systems for more advanced tunable white capabilities, with technical details available upon request.
Each luminaire is designed with longevity and serviceability in mind. The LED light engines are field-replaceable and upgradable via tool-free quick-connectors, future-proofing your lighting system for years to come. Runs exceeding 12 feet are configured as modular systems (S#) using 4-foot and/or 8-foot sections that are assembled on-site with Axis’s proprietary joiners.
