Suresnes France, — Philips RacingVision GT200 has won the prestigious Auto Express title of Headlight of the Year in the 2023 staging of the magazine’s annual Product Awards. Lumileds, the global manufacturer of Philips automotive products, is celebrating yet another award for this pioneering headlight, further adding to the host of accolades the bulb has received since its introduction.
In its 2023 Awards Issue, Auto Express described Philips RacingVision GT200 as a shining example to the rest. The Philips bulb had the longest beam length and scored the highest on the Figure of Merit figure that combines all of the various measurement criteria that are tested. In addition, when deciding this year’s Headlight of the Year, Auto Express for the first time added in price, and therefore value, as a contributing factor to its decision.
Philips RacingVision GT200 – setting the standard for increased safety
Philips RacingVison GT200 raised the bar for halogen headlight bulbs when it was introduced a couple of years ago, as the first bulb to deliver light that was up to 200% brighter compared to the minimum legal standard.
Earlier in the year, Philips RacingVision GT200 bulb topped the Headlamp Mega-test conducted by the magazine, and the bulb has now won numerous awards across Europe for its stellar performance. Philips RacingVision GT200 remains the flagship of the halogen range, delivering the type of super-bright visibility of a rally bulb, but in a format that drivers can use on public roads. With its ultra-performance beam reaching a full 80 meters further than the minimum length[1], Philips RacingVision GT200 lets the driver see more of the road ahead. The optimized bulb design provides higher luminance for a better view of the road ahead, which all adds up to a safer, more satisfying driving experience.

Diamond Precision quartz glass also ensures more light output within the regulation limits and guarantees a sharp cut-off line for the beam – so as not to dazzle oncoming drivers – as well as a brighter sweet spot to give more brightness where it counts. Philips RacingVision GT200’s quartz glass also gives greater thermal shock resistance, protecting the bulb’s lifespan, while enhanced UV absorption protects the car’s headlight optic.

LUXEON Core, CX, and the new CS CoB board sizes are supported by industry-standard holders and optics
San Jose, CA – Though there are many standards in the LED industry, the footprint or board size for CoBs is not one of them. Over the years, companies that manufacture CoB holders and optics have largely designed their products to support the 3 board formats that are widely adopted by lighting manufacturers. With the introduction of LUXEON CS CoBs, Lumileds now offers a full range of LUXEON CoBs in each of the common board footprints.
“OEMs choose to implement LUXEON CoBs for better efficacy, color stability, and or reliability, but they don’t want to have to redesign their system,” said Noman Rangwala, Global Product Manager at Lumileds. “Now, with the CS CoB range, it’s easy for lighting manufacturers using many of the common square board configurations to switch to LUXEON.”

Energy efficiency per EU Ecodesign increases one full class for LUXEON 90CRI CoBs
San Jose, CA – May 18, 2023 – Lumileds has released its 5th Generation CoBs in the Core Range and Core Range PW lines elevating output and efficacy and particularly for 90CRI parts. Output and efficacy increases for high-CRI parts are critical for the retail and hospitality industries in particular in which CoBs play a vital role as the source for spot and area lighting.
“Our new 5th Generation CoB LEDs serve lighting manufacturers’ need for more light, higher efficacy, better than ever quality of light, and reliability they can count on,” said Noman Rangwala, Global Product Manager at Lumileds. “The significant performance increases are the direct result of our unique phosphor mix and LED manufacturing experience, and our commitment to continuously advance the state-of-the-art as we address the needs of lighting manufacturers.”

Phosphor advances also contribute to superior color stability as the latest LUXEON Core Range CoBs are dimmed. This performance is especially critical in retail installations in which spotlights are often positioned at different distances from the merchandise. To achieve even illumination, some of the lighting is dimmed and that can result in uneven color in the beam and visual effects on the merchandise. To resolve this common problem, Lumileds focused on color stability over dimming to ensure even color throughout the light beam regardless of dimming intensity.
