UV Disinfection

UV germicidal lights produce radiant energy in the UV-C spectral band (100 nm to 280 nm) to destroy bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses (microorganisms). UV disinfection works by disrupting the DNA (nucleic acid) of pathogenic organisms, rearranging its genetic information, and interfering with the cell's ability to reproduce. The maximum absorption of radiant energy by the nucleic acid occurs at a wavelength of 260 nm.
