The Book Wall is a specialized lighting solution designed by ateljé Lyktan to seamlessly integrate with both new and existing bookcase systems. It features discreet luminaires that can be easily mounted in various ways to suit different shelving arrangements. Mounting options include brackets that allow installation above the shelves, placement within the upper shelf either surface-mounted or recessed by milling into the shelf, or alternatively, mounting directly on the wall. This versatility ensures that the Book Wall lighting adapts to a wide range of bookcase designs.
Designed in 2001 by Ahrbom & Partner, the luminaire’s body is crafted from extruded aluminium, combining durability with a sleek aesthetic. The Book Wall is highly regarded in the library sector for its flexibility, ease of installation, and excellent lighting performance. It produces an even and well-diffused light that illuminates book spines effectively, meeting the Swedish lighting guide Ljus & Rum’s standards for bookshelf lighting in libraries.
The standard mounting bracket, referred to as Mounting Type A, allows the luminaire to be installed above the shelves with an expansion length of 100 mm. Alternatively, Mounting Type B enables direct attachment to the bookcase itself, which requires a threaded insert to be embedded into the bookcase to secure the fixture. Installation of the complete luminaire system requires ordering the luminaire, brackets, and end caps. For continuous lighting runs, joint plates are necessary, and for lengths of 2400 mm or longer, three brackets are recommended for proper support.
The Book Wall luminaire connects via a terminal block suitable for 3x2.5 mm² cables, and through-wiring is possible from both ends, facilitating easy electrical integration. For DALI control systems, a specific cable type, S05Z1Z1-F RQQ 5G1,0, is recommended.
The light source consists of an LED module available in color temperatures of 3000K or 4000K, fitted with LEDIL lenses designed for elliptical light distribution. This ensures targeted, efficient illumination with excellent color rendering, boasting a CRI of at least 90 and a chromaticity tolerance within 3 SDCM. The rated lifetime of the LED module is L90 50,000 hours, providing long-lasting performance. The product carries an energy efficiency classification of Class D. The driver options include a Tridonic On/Off or a DALI driver, allowing flexible lighting control to suit different environments and user preferences.
