Candela lighting, designed by Gonzalo Milá for Urbidermis in 2011, brings a refined, high-design aesthetic to the urban streetscape. Its minimal form is characterized by a slim, oval-shaped luminaire that is both sleek and elegant, making it ideal for streetscape settings. Despite its understated appearance, Candela is maximized for function, offering arrays of up to 96 energy-efficient Cree XPG2 LEDs, with pole heights available in standard 26-foot (8 meters) and 32-foot (10 meters) options. The lighting configurations are flexible, available in single, dual, and staggered arrangements along the pole, allowing tailored light levels that suit the specific needs of any urban site.
The luminaire housing is crafted from die-cast aluminum, designed to efficiently dissipate heat while showcasing meticulous design details that reflect the signature quality of Urbidermis. The glass lens is made from clear tempered glass, sealing tightly to the housing for durability and protection. The light source supports two color temperatures—3000K and 4000K—and is powered by a 120V-277V supply. It features a Class 2 integrated dimmable driver with a standard 1-10V dimming interface, with DALI dimming available upon request. Candela units ship fully assembled and prewired for easy installation, with detailed wiring diagrams provided in the installation guide.
The mounting system includes extruded aluminum arms that fasten securely to the luminaire with mechanical fasteners. These arms pair with a cast aluminum compression clamp for single-mount configurations and attach directly back-to-back for dual mounts. All mounting options are engineered to fit the 5-inch diameter section of the pole and are secured with mechanical fasteners to ensure stability. The poles themselves are stepped round extrusions made from 6063 aluminum treated to a T6 temper. The 26-foot pole tapers from 7 inches to 5 inches in diameter with a wall thickness of 0.188 inches, while the 32-foot pole steps from 8 inches to 5 inches with a thicker 0.250-inch wall. Additional features include a flush-mounted hand hole cover with magni-coated fasteners and cast aluminum nut covers at the base. An optional 7-pin twist lock receptacle can be mounted at the pole cap for added connectivity.
Both the luminaire and poles boast durable finishes that contribute to their longevity and aesthetic appeal. The Candela luminaire has a natural aluminum powdercoat finish provided by Urbidermis, while the poles are coated with Landscape Forms’ exclusive Pangard II® powdercoat finish, known for its durability and resistance to the elements. This combination of thoughtful design, premium materials, and advanced LED technology makes Candela a compelling choice for urban lighting projects seeking both style and performance, perfectly suited to enhance public spaces with efficient, adaptable illumination that meets International Dark-Sky standards by eliminating up-light.
