Surface-Mount Tunable White Cylindrical LED Downlight for Weather-Exposed Outdoor Architectural Environments

  • ERCO
Iku surface-mounted luminaires bring the versatility of architectural lighting to environments exposed to the elements or specific operational stresses, such as bus terminals, under cantilevered roofs, or passageways. Their surface-mounted installation simplifies the process of upgrading existing buildings, offering an economical solution for modernizing lighting systems. With a cylindrical form and precise, neutral design, Iku luminaires integrate seamlessly into a wide variety of architectural contexts. They align aesthetically and functionally with other fixtures in the Iku family, supporting cohesive lighting concepts that transition fluidly between interior and exterior spaces.

Designed for performance and adaptability, Iku luminaires feature advanced lighting technology to accommodate diverse applications. Options such as Tunable White enable Human Centric Lighting (HCL) concepts that simultaneously address activity, atmosphere, and architecture—the “AAA” approach. This makes Iku ideal for environments requiring both functional efficiency and emotional impact. Their exceptionally high visual comfort also minimizes unwanted glare and stray light, reducing light pollution and aligning with "Dark Sky" guidelines to preserve the night-time environment.

With four precise light distributions, Iku luminaires provide design flexibility for both general and specialized lighting. Wallwashers deliver uniform illumination on vertical surfaces like façades, while oval beam distributions are suited to corridors and covered pathways. Wide and extra-wide beam downlights ensure glare-free general lighting across large open areas. These capabilities support lighting concepts based on the AAA formula: revealing architecture, enhancing activity through clear visibility, and setting the right atmosphere with adaptive lighting tones from day to night.

Iku also enables responsible outdoor lighting by leveraging precision lens technologies that minimize stray light. Scattered light can cause ecological disturbances, affecting both wildlife and human circadian rhythms. By precisely directing light only where needed, Iku helps protect the environment while improving efficiency and reducing energy consumption.

Constructed from corrosion-resistant cast aluminum with a no-rinse surface treatment and double powder coating, Iku luminaires are designed for long-term outdoor durability. Their IP65 rating ensures resistance to dust and water jets from all directions, making them particularly suited for weather-exposed installations. Reflective protective glass and polymer ceiling fixtures further contribute to their robust construction. Iku luminaires are engineered for a long service life, with components tested and built to operate reliably for over 75,000 hours, meeting ERCO’s ECO design standard of a 20-year minimum lifespan.

Equipped with advanced optical systems, Iku downlights and wallwashers utilize ERCO’s multi-lens technology (MLT), featuring Fresnel lenses in wide flood, extra-wide flood, oval flood, and wallwash configurations. These lenses are crafted from high-quality optical polymers to ensure precise light control and high visual comfort. The LED modules are available in mid-power (for downlights) or high-power (for wallwashers), with options in warm white (3000K), neutral white (4000K), or tunable white (2700K–6500K). Custom configurations are also available upon request, including different LED color temperatures with high color rendering (up to CRI 97), housing in up to 10,000 additional colors, and anti-glare cones in finishes like matte gold, silver, champagne, or copper.

To further streamline installation and reduce costs, Iku supports through-wiring, allowing multiple luminaires to be connected to a single power source. This is particularly beneficial for large-scale projects, cutting down on labor and wiring complexity. Additionally, Iku luminaires can be rotated ±10° on the mounting plate, enabling precise alignment for specific light distributions like oval flood and wallwash, which are critical for uniform and targeted illumination.

Iku’s performance extends to both general and linear lighting designs. For general ambient lighting, downlights can be spaced up to 1.5 times the mounting height from the working plane, with wall offsets set at half that spacing. For linear applications—ideal in areas such as airports or transit corridors—the same spacing principle applies, ensuring consistent brightness across long passages. In wallwashing applications, the optimal distance from the wall is one-third the room height, with longitudinal spacing of fixtures up to 1.3 times this offset, ensuring even vertical illumination.

Iku’s tunable white technology allows users to adapt the color temperature dynamically, supporting scenographic lighting and enabling harmonious transitions between interior and exterior environments. This synchronization is crucial for creating immersive, unified lighting experiences across a building’s architecture. With energy-efficient performance of up to 120 lm/W, Iku delivers high output with low power consumption, enabling wider spacing and reducing the number of fixtures required—leading to significant savings in installation, maintenance, and operational costs.

Altogether, Iku surface-mounted luminaires stand as a comprehensive lighting solution for demanding architectural environments, blending efficiency, aesthetics, and environmental responsibility into a single, high-performance system.
