Solar LED Aviation Light for Permanent Runway and Helipad Lighting

The AV-426 is a next-generation, self-contained solar LED aviation light engineered to withstand the harshest environmental conditions while requiring minimal ongoing maintenance. This robust fixture is designed for a variety of aviation lighting applications, including permanent approach lighting, runway edge lighting, threshold lighting, and helipad lighting. Its fully functional system can be remotely controlled from the control tower without the need for expensive cabling or trenching when equipped with radio frequency (RF) technology.

Incorporating the latest solar advancements, the AV-426 features active Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technology, which maximizes the energy harvested from its solar panels, thereby improving overall efficiency and performance. The lighting unit includes enhanced optics for superior light output and is also available with infrared (IR) capability. Each chassis model comes standard with an external ON/OFF switch and an external charging port that supports AC or DC supplementary battery charging, depending on the product variant. When integrated into a Power Line Communication (PLC) system, AV-426 fixtures can receive signals to power on/off, switch between visible and IR modes, and adjust light intensity through the PLC interface, typically managed via a control tablet.

The AV-426 solar lighting system is offered in two chassis heights—Compact and Standard—to accommodate different installation requirements. Both chassis options feature upgraded solar panels coupled with an MPPT to optimize solar energy input into batteries sized according to the chassis type: 12Ah batteries for types C0, C3, and C5; 13.5Ah batteries for types C2 and C4; and a larger 24Ah battery option for chassis type C1, enabling extended run times.

Multiple power configurations are available for the AV-426, including variants with AC input capability. The system’s flexibility allows operators to choose the best power source based on site-specific needs. In addition, optional PLC and RF modules expand the control capabilities, enabling functions such as mode switching between visible and IR lighting, and selective control of light groups. RF options are FCC compliant and allow the integration of visible and IR LEDs within the same light head for enhanced operational versatility.

The AV-426 light head has been redesigned to comply with stringent FAA and ICAO photometric requirements. It offers three-step intensity adjustments conforming to regulatory standards: for FAA compliance, the light intensities are Low (10%), Medium (30%), and High (100%); for ICAO compliance, they are Low (20%), Medium (40%), and High (100%). This ensures the fixture meets diverse global aviation lighting regulations.

Regarding certifications and compliance, the AV-426 adheres to FAA AC150/5345-46E standards for L-861 and L-861E lighting, ICAO Annex 14 Volume 1 (July 2018 edition), and meets European CE directives EN61000-6-4:2012 and EN61000-6-2:2019.

The AV-426’s physical construction utilizes durable composite polymer materials for the body, providing robustness and weather resistance. The lens is made from UV-stabilized LEXAN® polycarbonate, ensuring longevity and resistance to environmental degradation. The lens diameter measures 168 mm (6 3/4 inches), and it incorporates a multi-LED optic design for optimized light distribution. Mounting is facilitated by a four-hole 200 mm bolt pattern, supporting stable and secure installation. The chassis heights measure 406 mm (16 inches) for the compact version and 503 mm (20 inches) for the standard variant.

Electrically, the AV-426 integrates built-in circuit protection and operates at a nominal voltage of 12 volts. The light source comprises highly efficient LEDs available in a spectrum of colors including red, green, white, yellow, blue, bi-directional combinations, and infrared. The solar modules utilize monocrystalline technology to deliver reliable and efficient energy harvesting.

Overall, the AV-426 solar LED aviation light represents a versatile, low-maintenance, and technologically advanced solution for modern airfield lighting needs, combining durability, flexibility, and compliance with international aviation lighting standards.
