The Asplund Pendant is a timeless piece of Scandinavian lighting design and holds the distinction of being Scandinavia’s oldest continuously produced fixture. Originally created in 1922 by the renowned Swedish architect Gunnar Asplund for The Skandia Cinema in Stockholm, this pendant luminaire quickly gained recognition for its elegant craftsmanship and architectural significance. It was initially manufactured and sold by Böhlmarks until the mid-1960s, when production was taken over by ateljé Lyktan. Remarkably, the Asplund Pendant is still made with the same artisanal care today, preserving every detail as originally envisioned.
The luminaire features a hand-blown white opal glass shade that emits a soft, diffused glow. Complementing this are handcrafted elements such as the decorative “crown” and suspension chain, all finished in a traditional antique green paint. Its refined and classic appearance has ensured its enduring popularity across generations and architectural styles.
Designed for hook suspension, the Asplund Pendant can hang up to a maximum height of 1250 mm. It includes a 1.5-meter feed cable (3x0.75 mm²) and is equipped with a ceiling cup containing a terminal block (3x2.5 mm²) for secure and straightforward electrical connection. The product carries an energy classification of F according to EU Regulation 2019/2015 and continues to embody the spirit of genuine hand-made Scandinavian lighting.
