The CRUo Series by Certolux is a recessed plenum access LED cleanroom luminaire meticulously engineered for environments demanding stringent hygiene and contamination control. Designed for access above the ceiling through the fixture, this light is IP65 certified and compliant with ISO Class 3–8 cleanroom standards, ensuring exceptional protection against dust and water ingress. Its overlapping doorframe design seals completely to the ceiling and housing, concealing the fixture flange for a seamless, hygienic surface. The fixture features a triple-gasketed construction and is listed for wet locations, making it suitable for dusty, damp, or high-moisture environments such as laboratories, hospitals, and healthcare facilities. The CRUo series accommodates universal mounting for 1.0” to 1.5” T-bar grid and flanged installations and is certified NSF2 for splash and non-food zones, with optional certification for food zone use.
Precision and durability define the housing construction of the CRUo series. Each unit is formed from a single piece of 20-gauge cold-rolled steel, fully seam-welded to eliminate gaps and ensure a smooth, hole-free design. The rigid 18-gauge flange features rounded welded corners for enhanced safety. Alternative materials such as stainless steel or aluminum are available for specialized applications. The housing undergoes a five-stage pretreatment process and is finished with a gloss white polyester powder coating, tested to withstand 1000 hours of ASTM B117 salt spray exposure, ensuring long-term corrosion resistance.
The overlapping access doorframe provides secure, plenum-side access while maintaining a complete environmental seal. Constructed from one-piece 18-gauge cold-rolled steel, the door is available in optional 304 or 316 stainless steel or aluminum finishes. The door is hinged by stainless steel aircraft cables and secured by captive stainless-steel flat-head fasteners with integrated silicone O-rings, ensuring a tight, tool-free seal. A CertaSeal microcellular closed-cell gasket provides a resilient, chemical-resistant barrier between the doorframe, housing, and ceiling. The door can be removed, reversed, or serviced without compromising the integrity of the seal.
For optical performance and durability, the lens system uses a 0.125-inch impact-resistant diffuse symmetric acrylic (DSA) lens, designed with a smooth exterior for easy cleaning and disinfection. The lens is sealed to the doorframe with RTV silicone sealant and retained by continuous perimeter brackets to ensure uniform pressure and prevent leakage. Optional lens materials and optical configurations are available upon request.
The triple-gasket system further reinforces the CRUo’s protection. The lens is sealed to the doorframe with RTV silicone, while the doorframe itself is sealed to the housing and ceiling using a chemical-resistant CertaSeal microcellular gasket. A closed-cell neoprene gasket secures the housing flange to the ceiling, and the door screws feature silicone O-rings and specially designed sealing flat-head screws for additional moisture and particle protection.
Inside, the LED system delivers precise color consistency and high efficacy, available in color temperatures of 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, and 5000K, with standard 80 CRI and optional 90 CRI. Each LED board module is engineered for tight regulation of color and output, maintaining a 3-step MacAdam ellipse (SDCM) for color uniformity. The L90 lifetime exceeds 60,000 hours, and all LED modules are field-replaceable and commercially available. Optional Tunable White (2700K–6500K), amber, and red LED arrays can be selected individually or in combination with white light for specialized cleanroom, biosafety, or laboratory applications. Additional options include Bios SkyBlue® technology for circadian-friendly lighting environments.
The electrical system integrates a programmable, high-efficiency constant-current driver that offers smooth 0–10V dimming down to 1%. It achieves greater than 85% efficiency with total harmonic distortion below 10% and is certified to FCC Part 15, Class A. The fixture operates from 120–277Vac or 347Vac at 50/60Hz, with options for Lutron™ or DALI digital dimming control. Emergency drivers, when included, are serviceable from the room side, and each LED color channel is independently circuited for maximum control flexibility.
Every CRUo fixture is finished with a durable five-stage pretreated gloss white polyester powder coat, providing superior resistance to corrosion and chemical wear. Stainless steel models can be specified with a brushed #4 polished finish or a gloss white coating to match architectural aesthetics.
Installation versatility is a hallmark of the design. The CRUo series supports flange and grid mounting configurations. Swing-style brackets with a 1.3–2.9-inch vertical range secure flange installations, while grid installations accommodate 1” and 1.5” T-Bar NEMA LE4 Type G ceilings, with optional compatibility for 2” T-Bar systems. The fixture operates reliably in ambient temperatures ranging from -4°F (-20°C) to 104°F (40°C), ensuring consistent performance across various controlled environments.
Comprehensively tested and verified, the CRUo series carries extensive certifications and listings. It is UL listed for wet locations under covered ceilings in compliance with ANSI/UL1598 and UL8750 standards, and rated Type IC for insulated ceilings. It meets NSF2 requirements for splash and non-food zones and can be specified for food zone compliance. The fixture is IP65 rated per IEC60529, ensuring dust-tight construction and resistance to water jets. It meets ISO Class 3–8 cleanroom classifications and EU GMP Grade A standards, and is suitable for Biosafety Levels BSL1–3. Additionally, it complies with CCEA requirements and is rated for 2500 psi washdown conditions, making it one of the most robust, specification-grade cleanroom luminaires available for healthcare, laboratory, pharmaceutical, and containment environments.
