The Bumling Mini Outdoor is a modern revival of a beloved Swedish design classic. Its story began in 1968 at a lighting exhibition in Gothenburg, where designer Anders Pehrson’s new pendant lamp drew comparisons to a large boulder due to its bulky, British racing green form measuring 60 cm in diameter. This striking design marked the birth of the Bumling lamp, which became iconic throughout the 1970s with an entire range that included table, floor, wall, and various outdoor versions inspired by the original pendular shape.
Today, Bumling Mini is re-launched in its original compact size of 190 mm, with the pendant version also offered in a 250 mm diameter. The design stays true to the 1968 original, featuring a spun aluminium shade and the classic circular grid, complemented by the original flexible arm for mounting. It is available with either an LED or GU10 socket, catering to modern lighting needs while honoring its heritage.
Crafted from spun aluminium, a fully recyclable material, the Bumling Mini Outdoor is designed for durability and sustainability. It is equipped with a low-energy 6W LED light source emitting a warm 2700K glow that mimics the warmth of incandescent light. The luminaire includes an IP65-rated AC module with an opal diffuser, ensuring it is protected from dust and water, making it suitable for outdoor use. The LED light source has a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours and boasts excellent color rendering with a CRI of 90 and minimal chromaticity variation.
Installation involves a wall-mounted junction box with quick connectors housed in an IP55-rated enclosure, providing secure and efficient mounting. The product carries an energy efficiency classification of Class E for its light source, balancing performance and environmental considerations.
Regarding environmental resilience, Bumling Mini Outdoor is finished with a standard paint suited for corrosivity category C3 environments. This means it is ideal for urban and industrial areas with moderate sulfur dioxide pollution or coastal regions with some exposure to salt air. For harsher conditions with high sulfur dioxide levels, a special treatment for enhanced corrosion resistance is available upon request.
