The AV-REIL (Runway End Identification Light) is a self-contained, highly durable lighting solution designed to clearly identify the corners of a runway's landing threshold. Engineered for both permanent and temporary deployment, this LED-based approach light can be powered through a standard AC connection or configured for off-grid solar operation, making it suitable for a wide range of civil, military, and expeditionary applications. The AV-REIL delivers reliable performance in critical runway approach scenarios and is adaptable for use in integrated lighting systems such as MALSR, SSEALS, and SALS.
Two chassis options are available to meet different operational requirements and environmental conditions. The first features a lightweight composite polymer construction integrated with solar panels and a battery backup system, making it ideal for autonomous solar-powered use in remote or tactical locations. The second version uses a robust aluminum chassis with a user-replaceable internal battery, allowing for easy maintenance and extended service life. The AV-REIL is compatible with several approach lighting systems. In a MALSR setup, it integrates seamlessly alongside six steady-burning barrettes, 15 stand-alone steady-burning lights, and five sequenced flashing lights. For SSEALS configurations, it pairs with seven steady-burning lights and three sequenced flashers. In a SALS layout, the REIL operates in conjunction with 17 stand-alone steady-burning lights. This modular compatibility allows the AV-REIL to play a crucial role in establishing clear and visible landing guidance across different approach scenarios.
This system offers multiple power configurations, including solar-only, AC with battery backup, and a hybrid AC/battery system supplemented by solar charging. The integrated battery system includes an absorbent glass mat (AGM) battery with a 25Ah capacity and a nominal voltage of 12V, offering dependable performance even in remote or power-limited environments. A maximum power point tracking (MPPT) charging regulator ensures efficient energy management for the monocrystalline 100W solar module. The integrated charger is rated at 45W and accepts input voltages from 90 to 264VAC at 50/60Hz.
Optically, the AV-REIL utilizes high-efficiency LEDs producing white light, with five-step adjustable intensity to accommodate varying visibility conditions. At maximum intensity, it operates continuously for four hours, with an LED lifespan exceeding 100,000 hours. The system supports IR and NVG operation modes, making it suitable for covert or nighttime military use. The multi-LED optic lens, crafted from impact-resistant acrylic, delivers clear, high-contrast lighting optimized for runway end recognition.

The mounting configuration includes two through-holes arranged on a 200 mm diameter circle, simplifying installation in both temporary and permanent settings. The unit is rated for operation across extreme temperature ranges from -40 to 122°F (-40 to 55°C), with a service life of up to 12 years. It meets demanding environmental standards, with wind resistance up to 300 mph (483 kph) for the REIL unit itself and 125 mph (201 kph) for the solar panels, ensuring long-term reliability under harsh weather conditions.
