Medium Intensity Flashing Dual Red White Beacon for Hazardous Industrial Areas and Aviation Safety Compliance

The Crouse-Hinds series LED medium intensity flashing dual red/white beacon is specifically designed for use with FAA Type D and E lighting configurations, making it ideal for marking towers, stacks, wind turbines, and buildings located in hazardous areas. These beacons combine advanced precision optics with long-life LED technology to ensure maximum visibility with minimal ground scatter, enhancing safety for aircraft and personnel alike. Each beacon provides full 360° coverage and is engineered to perform reliably in classified hazardous locations as well as under extreme environmental conditions.

Engineered to operate in harsh ambient temperatures ranging from -40°C to +55°C, these beacons offer exceptional reliability and durability. The LEDs used have an expected operational life of 100,000 hours, which significantly reduces maintenance frequency and costs while minimizing risks associated with non-compliance. Housed in robust NEMA 4X and IP66-rated enclosures, the units are designed to withstand exposure to moisture, dust, and other environmental hazards common in industrial and hazardous sites.

Certification and compliance are key strengths of these LED beacons. They are cETLus Listed and compliant with stringent standards for hazardous areas, including Class I, Division 2, Groups B, C, and D. Additionally, they meet UL1598 and UL844 standards, CSA C22.2 No. 250 and No. 137 requirements, and are approved by Transport Canada, DGAC Mexico, and ICAO for Types A*, B, and C configurations. This wide-ranging certification ensures global applicability and adherence to safety regulations.

The design incorporates multiple features that enhance functionality and ease of maintenance. Each beacon offers flashing or steady burn operation modes with patented optics that reduce down light and ground scatter to improve visibility and safety. The light module is detachable from its base, allowing for simple replacement at the end of its service life. With provisions for padlock security on the enclosure, these beacons are also protected against unauthorized access. Additional options include remote monitoring capabilities to support operational oversight and fault detection.

Photometrically, the beacon delivers a nominal flash intensity of 20,000 candelas during daytime operation (white light) and 2,000 candelas at night (red light), with a consistent flash rate of 40 flashes per minute for both modes. This ensures pilots and observers can reliably identify the beacon's location under varying lighting conditions.

Constructed from powder-coated, copper-free marine-grade aluminum, the housing is built to resist corrosion and endure harsh environments. The lens is UV-treated and made from heat- and impact-resistant polycarbonate to protect the LEDs and maintain optical clarity over time. A silicone gasket seals the unit, preventing moisture ingress and enhancing the beacon's longevity. Together, these materials and design considerations provide a rugged, dependable lighting solution for safety-critical applications in hazardous industrial environments.
