W-DALI is a wireless solution that serves as an ideal alternative to running traditional DALI cables, especially for retrofit or modernization projects. By eliminating the need for extensive rewiring or construction work, W-DALI enables an instant wireless lighting network, significantly reducing installation times and simplifying project planning. This capability allows contractors to undertake projects in buildings where running new cables is impractical or impossible. Faster installation and simplified deployment translate into increased project capacity, higher efficiency, and improved profit margins for lighting integrators and contractors.
Functioning as DALI in–DALI out, W-DALI maintains compatibility with existing DALI controllers, meaning programming and commissioning processes remain unchanged. Contractors do not need to learn a new system or adapt to different software, allowing for seamless integration into existing lighting infrastructures. The W-DALI product range includes two main devices: the W-DALI Node, a receiver designed for groups of lighting fixtures that can be fitted inside the fixture or within a junction box, and the W-DALI DIN Rail, a transmitter with receiver mode intended for mounting in electrical cabinets alongside existing DALI controllers. The DIN Rail variant extends network range compared to a Node thanks to its external antenna, making it suitable for larger or more complex installations.
Installation is straightforward, with W-DALI providing out-of-the-box connectivity. A simple power-up and connection to the W-DALI device is all that is required to begin operation. The wireless setup is instantaneous, and with just a push of a button, the W-DALI network is fully operational within minutes. W-DALI uses LumenRadio’s ultra-reliable MiraMesh technology to create a robust mesh network capable of covering entire buildings. Each network self-optimizes, automatically selecting the most efficient route for messages between devices. The system provides up to 500 meters of line-of-sight range between two meshing units, while LumenRadio’s patented Cognitive Coexistence technology ensures interference-free, highly reliable connectivity even in challenging RF environments.
The W-DALI Node operates on a voltage range of 216–253 VAC at 50/60 Hz, consuming less than 1 W of power even at full DALI PSU load, with a maximum current draw of under 5 mA. The Node supports conductor cross sections ranging from 0.5–2.5 mm² for stranded wires and 0.5–4 mm² for solid wires. Each Node can handle up to 10 DALI units per bus, with a guaranteed DALI PSU current of 30 mA and a maximum of 40 mA. Mechanically, the Node measures 46 x 46 x 21 mm, weighs 21 g, and carries an IP20 protection rating. It operates in ambient temperatures from –20 to +55 °C, with storage ranges from –30 to +80 °C and 10–95% non-condensing relative humidity.
The W-DALI DIN Rail operates on 12–24 VDC or 24 VAC ±10%, with a maximum power consumption of under 1 W and a current draw below 100 mA. The DIN Rail can support a DALI bus with a maximum current consumption of 120 mA and a DALI start-up time of less than five seconds. Conductor cross sections for both stranded and solid wires range from 0.2–2.5 mm². Its dimensions are 36 x 93 x 59 mm (excluding antenna), with a weight of 75 g and an IP20 protection rating. The ambient operating and storage temperature ranges are identical to the Node, from –20 to +55 °C and –30 to +80 °C, respectively, with a humidity tolerance of 10–95% non-condensing.
Overall, W-DALI provides a reliable, flexible, and cost-effective wireless DALI solution, enabling contractors to modernize lighting systems without rewiring, while maintaining full compatibility with existing DALI controllers and ensuring robust, interference-free network performance across complex installations.
