The Lutron HomeWorks system is an intelligent, bespoke solution for the most uncompromising home integration projects, delivering complete control over lighting, shades, climate, security, and audio-visual systems. Built for sophisticated residential applications, HomeWorks offers a centralized panel and hybrid wireless technology that operates via RF communications rather than Wi-Fi. Each system is tailored to meet the unique demands of individual homes, providing technology professionals with maximum design freedom, reliable performance, and the ability to integrate a wide range of Lutron products into a cohesive, intelligent environment. Lutron’s approach emphasizes longevity and durability, with components that undergo rigorous end-of-line testing and come backed by an extensive warranty to ensure lasting performance.
HomeWorks equips design teams with tools to create immersive, intuitive experiences for homeowners. The Lutron Luxury Experience App allows clients to explore a virtual showroom on an iPad, interact with Lutron products, and visualize lighting and shade designs within their own spaces. The system includes a comprehensive portfolio of custom-engraved, HomeWorks-exclusive switches, keypads, and remotes that simplify interactions while elevating the home’s aesthetic. Through the LEAP API, HomeWorks enables responsive and secure integration with third-party systems for security, climate, audio-visual, and voice control, ensuring seamless automation across all aspects of the home.
The platform is built for flexibility and scalability, with HomeWorks wireless processors capable of communicating with up to 100 Clear Connect – Type X devices, 95 Clear Connect – Type A devices, and four Type A repeaters per processor. Wireless processors use IEEE 802.3af, 802.3at, or 802.3bt-compliant PoE or PoE+ power supplies and are compatible with a wide range of Lutron devices, including Sunnata and Maestro dimmers, Pico controls, Radio Powr Savr sensors, Sivoia QS wireless shades, HomeWorks plug-in dimmers and switches, Ketra wireless fixtures, and seeTouch keypads. Each processor must be centrally located and mounted away from sources of interference, with Cat5e minimum cabling used for home-run Ethernet connections. The system’s Clear Connect wireless mesh network ensures reliable communication, with distance guidelines of 30–75 feet depending on device type and repeater placement for optimal network performance.
Cybersecurity is a cornerstone of the HomeWorks platform. Lutron’s “Secure Lifecycle” approach includes security by design, third-party validation, continuous monitoring, and proactive updates. All communications between programming software, processors, and mobile applications are encrypted and authenticated, and secure hardware elements safeguard cryptographic keys. Remote access uses unique authentication keys, and firmware updates are signed to ensure authenticity. The system supports industry-standard techniques for cloud-based integrations, including OAuth2.0, with one year of security support guaranteed from system start-up. Lutron maintains ongoing monitoring of potential threats and releases security patches automatically to maintain system integrity and privacy.
The HomeWorks digital power module provides DIN-rail-mounted control and power for two independent HomeWorks digital buses, each supporting up to 64 digital loads. The module delivers perceived linear control of intensity, includes QS control link for seamless integration into a HomeWorks QSX system, and retains programming memory in the event of power loss. It supports field-configurable emergency levels, low-end and high-end trims, fade times, and short-circuit protection with automatic restart. The module meets cULus and ISO 9001:2015 standards, includes lightning strike protection, and is rated for indoor operation within a 32–104 °F (0–40 °C) ambient temperature range.
HomeWorks RF Maestro local controls function as conventional dimmers, switches, and fan speed controls, while offering integration into the HomeWorks system. They support single-pole and multi-location applications and include advanced features such as fade on/off, delayed long fade to off, and rapid full-on. Each unit incorporates a Front Accessible Service Switch (FASS) for safe lamp replacement and can work with Lutron Designer wallplates, including Claro, Satin Colors, and Nova T* series. RF Maestro local controls communicate via RF, require placement within 30 feet of a repeater for proper operation, and support optional color change kits. The controls include RTISS circuitry to compensate for line-voltage variations in real time when a neutral connection is provided.
The HomeWorks QS processor provides centralized control and communication for the QS system, enabling integration with HomeWorks software and third-party systems. Processors may be networked via standard or ad-hoc Ethernet connections, with all devices on a project connected to the same network for proper operation. Powered by QSPS-DH-1-75 power supplies, QS processors can be mounted in multiple panel types, including HQ-LV21, L-LV21, L-LV14, PNL-8 enclosures, or DIN panels with control compartments. The processor manages all connected devices, coordinates system programming, and interfaces with the HomeWorks Designer software.
For DALI® integration, the HomeWorks DALI® Power Module serves as a DIN-rail-mounted, DALI-2® certified single master controller. It provides power and control to a single DALI® bus supporting up to 64 digital addressable loads. The module features a guaranteed current of 128 mA per bus, short-circuit protection with automatic restart, and compliance with ANSI/IEEE lightning protection standards. DALI® loads can be assigned to 64 zones per bus, with wiring and terminal specifications aligned to standard HomeWorks QS installations. The module is suitable for indoor operation and integrates seamlessly with the HomeWorks QSX system for centralized control.
Overall, HomeWorks delivers an integrated, secure, and highly customizable home automation experience, combining intuitive controls, advanced wireless communication, digital bus management, and robust cybersecurity. The system accommodates the most demanding residential projects, supports a wide variety of lighting, shading, and automation devices, and enables sophisticated, client-specific designs that maintain reliability and performance over decades.
