The Pad-Star® DC Elevated Ground Mount L-810 Obstruction Light – 2nd Generation is a newly redesigned lighting fixture from FEC Heliports, developed to enhance perimeter visibility and safety for heliports operating in demanding environments. As a critical part of any heliport lighting system, this LED ground perimeter light is used to mark and illuminate the Touchdown and Lift-Off Area (TLOF) and Final Approach and Take-Off Area (FATO). It plays a vital role in helping pilots identify the landing pad and safely approach during nighttime operations or under adverse weather conditions.

Released in December 2020, this second-generation model incorporates key improvements that enhance its performance, longevity, and installation flexibility. One of its core features is a hermetically sealed optical assembly, which effectively prevents internal condensation and ensures clear, uninterrupted light output over the life of the fixture. Like all lights in the Pad-Star® series, this model includes built-in infrared (IR) output as standard equipment, making it fully compatible with Night Vision Goggles (NVG) and compliant with FAA infrared specifications (E/B#98). This functionality supports covert or tactical aviation operations and enhances overall nighttime visibility.

Engineered with broad compatibility in mind, the Pad-Star® DC Ground Mount L-810 is universally designed to integrate into virtually any existing heliport lighting system. Its DC-based design offers excellent energy efficiency and is capable of being powered by renewable energy sources, making it ideal for remote or off-grid applications. The fixture operates on 12 to 24 VDC through an FEC PLC Controller, while the input power can range from 120 to 277V at 50/60 Hz. Consuming just 6 watts of power at 0.350 mA, the fixture provides substantial energy savings while maintaining full compliance with global aviation lighting standards.

The light source utilizes high-performance Osram LEDs—one visible LED and three IR diodes—delivering a lifespan rated at over 50,000 hours. Built to withstand extreme environments, the fixture features a body constructed from 356-T6 aluminum alloy, a flange crafted from 6061-T6 aluminum per QQ-A-200/8 specifications, and a tempered borosilicate glass lens. All external hardware is made from 18-8 stainless steel to resist corrosion. The entire assembly is finished with a hard anodize coating per MIL-A-8625 Type II, Class 1, ensuring durability against abrasion, moisture, and harsh weather conditions.

Physically, the fixture stands 4.25 inches (107.95 mm) above the mounting surface, with a body diameter of 6.5 inches (165.1 mm) and an 8-inch (203.2 mm) mounting flange. It installs via a 7 1/6-inch (177.8 mm) bolt hole circle with four equally spaced 5/16-inch mounting holes, allowing for secure attachment to a wide variety of surfaces.

Fully compliant with FAA EB#87, L-860HR & HS, ICAO Annex 14 Volume II, FAA AC 150/5390-2, and UK CAA regulations (CAP 437 and CAP 1264), this Pad-Star® L-810 light meets all requirements for intensity, beam distribution, and safety.
