The EHP-L LED fixture is a durable and efficient lighting solution specifically designed for general aviation applications, serving primarily as a heliport perimeter light. It emits omnidirectional green or yellow light to mark the outer limits of the touchdown and lift-off area (TLOF) used by helicopters. Yellow lighting is commonly installed in existing or military heliport facilities, while green lighting is typically used for new civil heliport installations. Additionally, blue versions of the EHP fixture may be utilized to mark lead-in taxiways. The design meets stringent requirements for elevated perimeter lighting, with an installed height of less than 8 inches, fully compliant with FAA AC 150/5390-2B standards.
Engineered in accordance with FAA specifications including L-861T from AC 150/5345-46 (current edition) and FAA Engineering Brief No. 67, the EHP-L is also ETL Certified. The fixture features a wide input voltage range of 95-264V AC, 50/60Hz, which significantly reduces installation costs by minimizing the number of cable runs and allowing for smaller wire sizes. The light output remains stable across the entire voltage range, ensuring reliable visibility regardless of local power fluctuations.
Each EHP-L is built for longevity and minimal maintenance, offering an average LED lifespan of at least 50,000 hours. The robust design incorporates aluminum casting, stainless steel hardware, and a corrosion-resistant aviation yellow powder-coated finish, ensuring durability in demanding environments. The low-profile structure reduces the risk of damage in the final approach and takeoff area, enhancing operational safety.
For environments prone to freezing conditions, the EHP-L is available with an optional arctic heater, covered under U.S. Patent 7192155 B2. This thermostatically controlled system activates below freezing temperatures, preventing snow and ice accumulation on the lens and allowing the fixture to melt ice similarly to older incandescent systems. This arctic variant also operates more efficiently than traditional 54W (VA) fixtures, being 2.6 times more efficient in warm weather and 1.5 times more efficient in cold conditions.
The EHP-L offers a direct replacement for outdated incandescent heliport lights, delivering superior energy efficiency and performance.
