LED Post Top Light for Historic Downtown and Pedestrian Pathways

Ashbery is a thoughtfully designed family of luminaires that blends advanced LED technology and optics with a respectful nod to traditional-style lights deeply rooted in the American design lexicon. Created in collaboration with Robert A.M. Stern Architects, renowned masters of modern traditional design, Ashbery offers a modern interpretation of historic lighting forms. This approach sparks an emotional connection to the past while delivering performance, appearance, and quality suited for contemporary outdoor environments. The collection provides an ideal design solution for revitalized downtowns and pedestrian-friendly spaces in small to mid-size cities.

The Ashbery post top light includes a versatile range of lighting options suited to a wide array of outdoor settings, from linear streetscapes to expansive pedestrian areas. Area lights come in single or dual luminaire configurations with pole heights ranging from 8 to 16 feet, available in both small-scale (8’, 10’, 12’) and large-scale (12’, 14’, 16’) sizes. These luminaires offer different symmetric and asymmetric light distributions with clear or diffused lenses, enabling designers to precisely tailor illumination direction, output, and ambiance to the site’s needs. The adaptable performance is further enhanced by Landscape Forms’ visual comfort and high-output light engines, which address lighting requirements ranging from intimate pedestrian zones to broader environments such as parking lots, streetscapes, and transit areas.

Constructed with durable cast aluminum, Ashbery luminaires feature LED light engines housed in an aluminum cartridge secured with magni-coated steel screws, providing corrosion resistance and longevity. The housing includes an acrylic frosted or clear lens and a distinctive LED center element that evokes the glow of historic gas lamps or early filament bulbs, enhancing the emotional experience and sense of place. The entire assembly is IP66 rated for outdoor durability, ensuring reliable operation in all weather conditions. Powered by a 120V to 277V electronic driver with 0-10V dimming capability, the luminaire operates effectively in temperatures as low as -40°C. The LED cartridge includes a weatherproof quick disconnect for easy installation and servicing. Additional options include an ANSI C136.41 twist lock receptacle and pole-mounted photo or motion sensors, while the lighting circuit and the center element are wired separately for optimal control.

Ashbery luminaires employ high-powered LEDs mounted on RoHS-compliant circuit boards with PMMA optics on each LED, offering color temperatures of 2700K, 3000K, and 4000K with a color rendering index (CRI) greater than 80. The center element features a warmer 2000K option, adding to the fixture’s classic ambiance. These luminaires meet or exceed TM21 L70 standards with a lifespan greater than 60,000 hours. The visual comfort light engine, featured in the 100 and 200 series, emphasizes human-centric optical design, reducing glare and contrast to create a first-class visual experience for pedestrians. It eliminates the ‘lens image’ of individual LEDs and offers distributions optimized for pedestrian-scale lighting. Meanwhile, the 300 series light engine delivers high output—up to 8400 lumens—and a variety of roadway distributions suitable for vehicular environments, making it ideal for parking lots, streets, and transit hubs. Together, these series enable comprehensive lighting solutions that serve both pedestrian and vehicular needs across a site.

Ashbery’s configurations and performance flexibility empower designers to adapt the lighting to numerous outdoor contexts. The path lights, standing three feet tall, run parallel to walkways to enhance pedestrian safety and encourage extended use of outdoor spaces. Wall-mounted lights provide soft, welcoming illumination adjacent to building façades, adding warmth and security. Area lights can be specified as single or dual-luminaire units mounted on poles, delivering anything from a gentle wash of light for intimate pedestrian settings to precise, directional illumination for streetscapes and transitional zones. This wide range of output, distributions, and optics ensures a superb visual environment. Across area and wall-mounted fixtures, the subtle glow of the separate LED center element offers an emotive connection to traditional lighting, enriching the experience and sense of place within the community.

In sum, Ashbery marries tradition and innovation through cast aluminum frames finished with Landscape Forms’ proprietary Pangard II® HAPS VOC-compliant, lead-free polyester powdercoat in a full palette of colors. This collection serves as a versatile, elegant solution for streetscapes, pedestrian pathways, and revitalized urban settings that demand lighting with both historic charm and contemporary performance.
