One of the unique features of the Avlite LED PAPI system is its capability to support both visual and infrared (IR) operational modes within the same optic. This innovative dual-mode functionality can be switched by ground operators, allowing pilots to receive approach slope information either through the traditional red/white light indication or via flashing infrared combinations. The system’s advanced optical design achieves the industry’s lowest power consumption while maintaining uniform light intensity and delivering the sharpest red/white transition line, which is critical for conveying accurate approach slope information to pilots.

These include AC power ranging from 90 to 264 VAC at 50/60 Hz, DC power with 3- and 5-step current inputs, solar power, and constant current regulation (CCR) compliant with ICAO requirements. Control options are equally versatile, including fixed, wireless, manual controls, and Pilot Activated Lighting Control/ARCAL, with power line control available in AC versions. The system’s LEDs are long-lasting, further reducing maintenance requirements and ensuring sustained performance.
Additional features include marine-grade finishes available in ICAO Yellow, FAA Orange, NATO Green, and Desert Sand, providing enhanced durability and corrosion resistance suitable for harsh environments. The system supports configurations such as two-box FAA Type L-881, four-box FAA Type L-880, ICAO PAPI, and A-PAPI variants. External baffles are incorporated to improve optical performance by reducing stray light and glare.
