The Pad-Star® AC Inset Semi-Flush L-810 Obstruction Light – 2nd Generation is a rugged, high-performance LED lighting solution developed by FEC Heliports to enhance safety on heliports where traditional elevated fixtures are prone to damage. Specifically designed to replace elevated perimeter lights in locations frequently exposed to aircraft wash or ground vehicle traffic, this semi-flush fixture is built to endure direct impact and heavy loads without compromising performance. Its low-profile, inset design allows it to be safely driven over, making it ideal for busy landing pads and maintenance zones.

Released in December 2020, this second-generation Pad-Star® inset obstruction light brings improvements in optical sealing, light quality, and environmental durability. It is engineered to illuminate the perimeter of the Touchdown and Lift-Off area (TLOF) and Final Approach and Take-Off area (FATO), helping pilots safely locate the landing pad during night operations or under adverse weather conditions. Like all Pad-Star series lights, this model comes standard with built-in infrared emitters, providing NVG (Night Vision Goggle) compatibility. This feature supports night flight operations where enhanced visibility and low-profile lighting are critical.

The light's optical assembly is hermetically sealed to prevent condensation buildup, ensuring consistent clarity and functionality in varying climate conditions. Its universal compatibility allows it to integrate seamlessly with any existing heliport lighting infrastructure, and it includes adapter ring options for use with any 10- to 12-inch light base, offering flexibility for upgrades or replacements. The fixture meets rigorous standards for light intensity and beam distribution, aligning with FAA, ICAO Annex 14, UK CAP 437, UK CAP 1264, and other international regulations, including FAA AC 150/5390-2 and EB#87.

Built with a mil-spec anodized cast aluminum body, tempered borosilicate lens, and corrosion-resistant stainless steel hardware, the fixture is designed to perform reliably in the harshest operating environments. The hard anodized finish, in accordance with MIL-A-8625 Type II, Class 1, enhances resistance to abrasion, salt, and weather exposure. Electrically, the light operates within a wide input voltage range of 100–277 VAC at 50/60 Hz and consumes only 6 watts at 0.350 mA. The optical system features one Osram visible LED and three Osram IR diodes, with a rated lifespan exceeding 50,000 hours for long-term, maintenance-free operation.

Physically, the light protrudes only 1.0 inch above the surface, with a body diameter ranging from 4.75 inches (120.65 mm) to 6.5 inches (165.1 mm), and mounts using a 10-inch (254 mm) flange. The mounting pattern includes eight equally spaced holes on a 7.75-inch (196.85 mm) bolt hole circle, countersunk to 82 degrees for a flush fit. The light base, constructed from 356-T6 aluminum alloy, stands 6.625 inches (168.27 mm) tall and measures 11 inches (279.4 mm) in outer diameter and 8.5 inches (215.9 mm) internally, providing a secure and durable foundation for inset installation.
