IP65 Recessed LED Downlight for Outdoor and Indoor Architectural Lighting

  • ERCO
Quintessence recessed downlights deliver exceptional visual comfort and optimal light quality in both indoor and outdoor environments. These luminaires bring the performance of downlights, lens wallwashers, and directional spotlights to exterior spaces, providing architects and designers with a powerful lighting toolkit for canopied and semi-open areas. The downlights and lens wallwashers are engineered for high uniformity and excellent glare control, making them ideal for illuminating broad surfaces with consistency and precision. With a 90° beam angle and 40° cut-off, the downlights achieve extremely wide light distribution, allowing for generous luminaire spacing without compromising coverage. For targeted lighting applications, the directional spotlight option features an adjustable optic that tilts up to 20° and rotates 360°, enabling precise accentuation of architectural features, artwork, or product displays. Thanks to their IP65 rating, Quintessence recessed luminaires are fully dust-tight and protected against water jets, ensuring long-lasting performance in outdoor and weather-exposed conditions.

The lighting system is designed around ERCO's advanced darklight reflector technology. For downlight applications, the reflectors are made of high-quality polymer with an aluminum vaporized mirror finish, offering a 40° cut-off angle for superior glare control. The wallwasher variant features an 80° cut-off reflector, delivering uniform vertical illumination across large façades or interior walls. High-power LED modules are at the core of the system, available in warm white (3000K) or neutral white (4000K) as standard, with additional variants offering 2700K, 3500K, and high CRI options up to CRI 97. Directional luminaires incorporate a collimating lens made of optical polymer, paired with Spherolit lens options including narrow spot, spot, or flood distributions for different accenting needs.

The optical system also includes high-performance diffuser and lens options made from optical polymer. These components shape the light into extra wide flood or wallwash patterns, depending on the application. For added durability and a refined aesthetic, the cover ring is constructed from corrosion-resistant cast aluminum with a no-rinse surface treatment, silver double powder coating, and safety glass protection. The luminaire housing itself is also cast aluminum with powder-coated finishes, designed for ceiling thicknesses between 1 and 30mm and installed using 2- or 3-point contact fastening systems. A black polymer installation unit is side-attached for mechanical stability. Control gear options include both switchable and DALI dimmable configurations, allowing integration into intelligent building systems and lighting networks.

Quintessence recessed luminaires support a wide range of lighting design scenarios. For general ambient lighting, the spacing between two downlights can be up to 1.5 times the mounting height above the working plane. To ensure consistent brightness across the space, the wall offset should be half the spacing between fixtures. In vertical lighting applications, lens wallwashers should be installed at a distance from the wall equal to one-third of the room height. For optimal longitudinal uniformity, the spacing between wallwashers can be up to 1.3 times the offset distance. These metrics allow lighting designers to achieve both visual continuity and energy efficiency by reducing the number of luminaires required.

For accent lighting, Quintessence directional luminaires are ideal tools for highlighting architectural elements, artworks, or merchandise with pinpoint accuracy. The recommended tilt angle for accentuation is around 20°, which ensures that the illuminated object is properly modeled without creating harsh or excessive shadows. This setup also prevents the formation of observer shadows that can diminish the visual impact of the display. The ability to tilt and rotate the optic adds creative flexibility, making it easy to adapt the lighting scheme to evolving spatial needs.

Overall, Quintessence recessed downlights combine elegant design, precision optics, and rugged construction to meet the challenges of high-performance lighting in both indoor and protected outdoor spaces. Their versatility, glare control, and range of distribution options make them a sophisticated solution for applications that demand both functional excellence and aesthetic harmony.
