The Internet Gateway serves as the critical bridge between a local Bluetooth® Mesh network and external systems, enabling seamless connectivity to cloud-based services, Building Management Systems (BMS), and remote access platforms. By connecting the mesh network to the wider Internet, the gateway allows users to monitor, manage, and control lighting and sensor systems from virtually anywhere. It also facilitates integration with voice control services and other IoT ecosystems, creating a unified and intelligent network infrastructure.
Functioning as a versatile interface, the gateway acts as a communication hub between multiple protocols and the broader BubblyNet Bluetooth® Mesh ecosystem. It collects and analyzes sensor data, supports remote debugging and configuration, and allows secure interaction with network devices. This level of integration ensures smooth operation across a range of applications—from simple standalone lighting systems to complex, cloud-connected smart environments. The gateway’s hardware and software are available in different versions to accommodate varying project requirements and levels of network complexity.
Built around a Broadcom BCM2711 quad-core Cortex-A72 64-bit SoC running at 1.5GHz, the gateway delivers reliable computing performance in a compact form factor. It includes dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz IEEE 802.11ac wireless connectivity, Bluetooth® 5.0 with Low Energy support, and a Gigabit Ethernet port for wired networking options. Equipped with 2GB of LPDDR4 memory, it ensures stable data handling and communication across connected devices. Power is supplied via a 5V, 2A input with integrated protections against short circuit, overcurrent, and overheating. The unit includes a 1.5-meter 18 AWG captive cable with a USB-C output connector for easy installation and consistent power delivery.
Compact and discreet, the gateway measures 1.7” x 2.75” x 1.05” (43mm x 70mm x 26mm) and is finished in black. It operates within an ambient temperature range of 32°F to 122°F (0°C to 50°C), making it suitable for various indoor environments. Installation should ensure that the gateway is located within 30 feet of the nearest device in the Bluetooth® Mesh network to maintain optimal signal strength and stability. Proximity is particularly important because wireless performance can be significantly affected by metal barriers or enclosures.
Running a Linux-based operating system, the gateway is an open-source microcomputer platform widely recognized in the technology industry for its flexibility and security. It enables remote user access for controlling key functions such as hue, saturation, light color temperature, on/off switching, and dimming. Beyond control functions, it also supports cloud synchronization and network diagnostics, allowing system administrators to remotely debug, configure, and manage Bluetooth® Mesh networks with confidence. Through its combination of compact design, robust performance, and flexible connectivity, the Internet Gateway forms the intelligent link that unites local mesh devices with global digital ecosystems.
