The RELIANCE® Omnidirectional Elevated Turnpad Light is a medium-intensity LED lighting solution specifically designed for airport taxiway edge and runway turning pad applications, emitting blue light to delineate critical movement areas. Engineered for optimal visibility and performance, this robust fixture meets the latest international aviation standards, fully complying with ICAO Annex 14, Volume 1 (current edition). It is ideally suited for use on visual and non-precision IFR runways, as well as elevated runway turning pads where precise edge marking is required to enhance pilot guidance during ground operations.
Designed for seamless integration into existing airfield lighting infrastructure, the RELIANCE turnpad fixture operates within a wide input current range of 2.8 to 6.6 amps. This compatibility enables it to be connected directly to existing runway edge circuits, simplifying installation and reducing system complexity. The fixture delivers consistent light output and features a long-lasting LED system, offering an average life of 100,000 hours under high-intensity use and exceeding 180,000 hours in typical operating environments. These exceptional lifespans drastically minimize the need for maintenance and eliminate the frequent re-lamping associated with older incandescent systems.
For colder climates, the RELIANCE turnpad fixture with arctic option incorporates a thermostatically controlled heater, which effectively prevents snow and ice accumulation from impairing light transmission. This deicing functionality performs comparably to traditional incandescent fixtures, ensuring reliable performance in extreme weather conditions. The fixture's mechanical design supports post-installation leveling, allowing up to 4° of tilt adjustment via three dedicated screws.
Durability and serviceability are at the core of the design. The fixture features a single-latch stainless steel clamp for easy removal of the top cover and lens, and watertight sealing is achieved using gaskets between the lens, top cover, and fixture head assemblies. The fixture includes a sealed cord entry to the optical assembly to prevent insect ingress, enhancing internal cleanliness and reliability. It is supplied as standard with a 1.5-inch coupling but is also available in a 2-inch version and alternative thread configurations to accommodate various mounting standards.
Power is supplied through a 6.6 A circuit using either a 10/15 W or 30/45 W L-830 isolation transformer (60 Hz) or L-831 transformer (50 Hz). RELIANCE turnpad lights are fully compatible with all FAA- and IEC-compliant transformers up to 100 W without compromising performance or lifespan, offering flexibility in both new installations and retrofit projects.
