ICAO and EASA Compliant LED PAPI Approach Lighting Systems for Modern Aerodromes

The TKH Airport Solutions Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) Systems are engineered to meet the latest international standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), adhering specifically to the guidelines outlined in "Annex 14, Volume 1 – Aerodromes" and the "Aerodrome Design Manual Part 4 – Visual Aids." These systems are suitable for use at a wide range of airports, including those with sharp transition approach requirements, such as STOLports (Short Take-Off and Landing airports), in compliance with AN/899 standards.

Designed with advanced LED lighting technology, the TKH PAPI systems provide high-intensity visual guidance with superior efficiency and reliability. Each system incorporates a precision angle sensor with a digital display, allowing for accurate setup and real-time monitoring. For enhanced performance in cold or icy climates, an optional integrated de-icing kit is available. Safety and operational continuity are key focuses, with features such as fail detection for both LED operation and tilt alignment. The use of dual light configurations adds redundancy, ensuring reliable operation even in the event of a component failure. These systems carry both ICAO and EASA certifications, underscoring their compliance and reliability in regulated airfield environments.

Constructed with durability and field-serviceability in mind, each light unit includes built-in tilt readout and fail detection capabilities, along with a fail-open (FO) function for added protection. Power is individually supplied to each light beam, and a single connector supports each redundant power source for ease of integration and maintenance. The external housing is finished in aviation yellow for visibility, while the remainder of the unit is coated in black. A breakable coupling, compliant with ICAO Part 6 specifications, is included to ensure structural safety upon impact.

The systems are available in various mounting heights ranging from 350 mm to 1265 mm, with a standard light point height of 550 mm. The mounting height can typically be adjusted by ±20 mm to meet specific installation requirements. Electrically, the TKH PAPI operates on a 6.6A series circuit or on standard AC power ranging from 90 VAC to 264 VAC at 50–60 Hz. Each 160W LED light system delivers approximately 20,000 candela (cd) in red and up to 110,000 cd in white, offering excellent visibility during approach. The light source consists of two 80W LEDs with an operational lifespan of 50,000 hours, significantly reducing maintenance needs. For electrical connections, the system typically uses a two-pin FAA Style 1 male plug, and a 200W transformer is recommended for optimal performance.

Overall, TKH's PAPI systems are robust, efficient, and precision-engineered solutions for modern airfields seeking reliable and regulation-compliant approach path indicators.
