The Matrex Cluster™ is a suspended high-output downlight system that combines multiple powerful spotlights into one sleek pendant form. Designed to deliver exceptional performance in large, high-ceilinged spaces, the fixture stacks two, three, or four MATREX modules into a single housing, producing up to an impressive 36,800 lumens. This clustered configuration makes it ideal for applications such as atriums, auditoriums, lobbies, and other expansive environments where strong illumination from a compact source is essential.
Built with precision and durability in mind, the Matrex Cluster features a body and trim constructed from steel and aluminum, finished in a durable powder coat available in a range of specified colors. The fixture is suspended from the ceiling using steel cables, paired with a silver braided power cable for a refined architectural finish. Despite its high-output capability, the Matrex Cluster maintains a compact form factor due to its hidden heat sinks and best-in-class thermal management, making it significantly smaller and more visually discreet than traditional high-powered spotlights.
The drivers are high-power-factor (HPF), electronic, and support 120–277V, 347V (EU-240V) input. These are typically integral to the fixture, with the exception of versions utilizing DMX controls, which require remote mounting. Light output is optimized with high lumen-per-watt efficiency and is rated based on 4000K, CRI 80+ performance.
For emergency lighting needs, a remote emergency system is available in North America, offering 1.5 hours of operation (3 hours in EU markets). This includes an inverter module, NiCad batteries, and a remote LED charge indicator and test switch that can be mounted up to 15 feet (4.5 meters) from the fixture. The fixture mounts to a junction box (by others), with configuration dependent on the selected canopy design.
With a reported L70 of over 60,000 hours and an estimated L70 life exceeding 145,000 hours, the Matrex Cluster ensures long-lasting reliability and minimal maintenance. It is damp location rated and offers compatibility with various sensor systems, available upon consultation with the factory.
The fixture was designed by Serge Cornelissen, reflecting a blend of technical precision and aesthetic refinement for large-scale architectural lighting needs.
