The RELIANCE Wingbar Elevated LED Light Fixture is a high-performance, unidirectional lighting solution designed specifically for runway threshold wing bar applications, emitting a clear green signal. Built to support advanced airfield lighting systems, the fixture is optionally equipped with the IQ integrated ILCMS remote—a sophisticated feature that enables intelligent lighting control and monitoring across the airfield. This makes RELIANCE a cornerstone technology in the development of intelligent airports, facilitating streamlined operations, energy efficiency, and optimized safety.

Engineered for global compliance, the RELIANCE Wingbar Elevated fixture meets or exceeds a broad range of current international aviation standards. These include FAA specifications for L-862S(L) and AC 150/5345-46, along with Engineering Brief No. 67. It is also fully compliant with ICAO Annex 14 Volume I, EASA CS-ADR-DSN, US MIL UFC 3-535-01 (Section 3-1.4), NATO STANAG 3316, and Canada’s TP 312. This level of certification allows for global implementation across civil and military airports with varied regulatory frameworks.

Designed for versatility, this elevated LED fixture is suitable for a wide array of ICAO and FAA applications. Under ICAO, it can be used for approach centerlines and crossbars, approach siderows, runway threshold and threshold wing bars, runway ends, and stop bars. In the FAA system, it is applicable as a stop bar (L-862S[L]), runway threshold light (L-862E[L]), and runway end light (L-862E[L]).

The RELIANCE Wingbar is available in three configurations to meet diverse airport needs. These include the IQ model with fully integrated ILCMS for intelligent lighting networks, a monitored version with integrated fail-open technology for advanced system compatibility, and a non-monitored (non-MON) version for straightforward, reliable operation without remote diagnostics. All versions are designed for energy efficiency, using less than 50 watts while maintaining a power factor of 0.95. This significantly reduces power consumption compared to traditional halogen lamps, which require 150 to 200 watts. Installation is simplified by compatibility with the mounting hardware of standard elevated halogen fixtures, enabling fast retrofitting. The fixtures are also equipped for easy leveling and aiming in azimuth using a dedicated tool and dual adjustment screws, ensuring quick and stable alignment.

Durability and sustainability are key features of the RELIANCE Wingbar design. With an average MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) of 56,000 hours at full intensity and over 200,000 hours under standard operating conditions, maintenance demands and relamping costs are significantly reduced. The compact, low-profile housing is engineered to withstand intense jet blasts, especially when placed at runway thresholds or ends. By replacing quartz-incandescent fixtures with RELIANCE LEDs, airports can often add additional lights without increasing the size of Constant Current Regulators (CCRs), which minimizes the need for auxiliary equipment such as isolation transformers. The LED light source also eliminates the need for color filters, avoiding color shift issues across different viewing angles and dimming steps. The IP67-rated enclosure ensures protection against water, dust, and insects, further enhancing the longevity of the system.

From a safety standpoint, the RELIANCE Wingbar is fortified with ANSI/IEEE C62.41-1991 Category C2 compliant lightning protection, in line with FAA Engineering Brief 67. This protection guards against a 1.2/50 μS – 8/20 μS combination surge with up to 10,000 V peak voltage and 5,000 A peak current. For added reliability, the fixture can include internal LED monitoring that detects individual light failures. In case of a defect, the system automatically disconnects the fixture from the transformer secondary, creating an open circuit that can be detected by ILCMS or Constant Current Regulators, ensuring continuous airfield lighting integrity.

Power compatibility is equally robust. RELIANCE lights are designed to operate with any IEC- or FAA-compliant isolation transformer rated up to 150 W. Detailed circuit VA load calculations are available in the technical manual to support precise electrical planning. Overall, the RELIANCE Wingbar Elevated LED fixture offers an intelligent, compliant, and energy-efficient solution for modern airfield threshold lighting.
