High-Intensity LED Heliport Beacon with ICAO, US Army, and CAA Pattern Compatibility

This advanced LED heliport beacon is a versatile and high-performance lighting solution designed for both civil and military applications, offering a wide array of operational modes, color options, and control settings. Available in either single-color or three-color configurations, the beacon utilizes high-brightness LEDs combined with sophisticated micro-electronics to deliver precise and customizable lighting patterns. It is engineered to provide clear and visible location marking for helipads, ensuring safe helicopter operations under varying conditions.

The beacon supports multiple pre-programmed and user-selectable flash patterns, accessible through onboard switches. Users can easily configure which quadrants of the beacon emit light, as well as set the maximum light output to one of four brightness levels: 100%, 60%, 30%, or 10% of the maximum intensity. This adjustability ensures optimal visibility and power efficiency based on specific site requirements.

Several industry-standard and mission-specific operating modes are supported, depending on the model. These include the FAA L-802H civil helipad beacon pattern, which delivers 36 flashes per minute (FPM) with a 75-millisecond pulse width, and the US Army helipad pattern specified in TM 5-811-5, featuring a 36 FPM sequence using white (double peak), green, and yellow pulses at 50 milliseconds. Additional selectable modes include the FAA L-802M military helipad beacon (17.3 FPM, 100 ms pulse width), two distinct location beacon patterns, a modified ICAO pattern with short and long pulse durations (30 FPM), and a 25 FPM mode compliant with UK CAA and Transport Canada regulations. The beacon also offers two Morse code operating modes, adjustable between 4–6 words per minute and capable of transmitting one, two, or three-character codes.

Electrically, the beacon operates on an input voltage range of 80–205 VAC, with an average power consumption of less than 90 watts. It is equipped with a relay contact output for integration into alarm monitoring systems. The LEDs used in the beacon are rated for a projected lifetime exceeding 50,000 hours, supporting long-term reliability and reduced maintenance.

The color output of the beacon includes a standard "cool white" (6000–6500K), green (528 nm), and yellow (590 nm), with additional optional LED colors such as red (625 nm), red-orange (617 nm), hyper red (656 nm), and deep blue (455 nm). This allows for further customization depending on mission needs or regional aviation standards.

Physically, the beacon stands 8 inches tall and is designed for mounting using a 7.063-inch bolt circle. It is fully sealed to an IP66 protection rating, ensuring resistance to dust, water, and harsh weather. The unit functions in operating temperatures ranging from -25°C to +50°C and can be stored in temperatures as low as -25°C and as high as +80°C.

Out of the box, the beacon is pre-programmed as a three-color heliport locating beacon but includes accompanying software for reprogramming into other modes such as ICAO, U.S. military, and Morse code patterns. It is pre-wired for quick and easy surface mounting, and its quadrant control feature allows for restricted directional visibility, helping to eliminate unnecessary light spill and improving safety. With its high-brightness LEDs, rugged construction, and intelligent programmability, this beacon delivers superior long-range visibility and operational flexibility for a wide range of heliport applications.
