Hazardous Location Linear LED Flood Light for Offshore Facilities, Catwalks, and Drilling Rigs

The Nemalux BL series is a line of industrial-grade, lightweight LED light fixtures engineered for demanding environments. These luminaires are designed to replace conventional vapor-tight fluorescent fixtures in marine, industrial, and hazardous locations, offering high-performance illumination in a compact and robust form factor. Their flexibility is further enhanced by seven mounting options, allowing deployment across a wide range of application areas.

The BL series features a copper-free aluminum housing with either a polycarbonate or optional glass lens, providing impact resistance and durability. The fixtures are field-serviceable, with replaceable light engines, power supplies, and housing components. A built-in junction area with three ¾” NPT entries simplifies termination and supports through-wiring of multiple fixtures on a single circuit, reducing the need for external junction boxes. With triple-layer corrosion protection, the BL is built to endure corrosive and outdoor environments.

Certified under UL and CSA standards for general, marine, and hazardous locations, the BL series meets the requirements for Class I, Division 2, Groups ABCD; Class II, Division 2, Groups FG; Class III; Class I, Zone 2, Group IIC; and even Zone 21 and Zone 22 for areas where explosive atmospheres are likely to occur. These certifications make the BL suitable for a wide array of industrial and offshore environments.

In terms of performance, the BL fixture is available in 2,000 and 4,000 lumen outputs within its compact 18-inch housing, making it an ideal solution for space-constrained environments. Originally developed for military shelters, the BL luminaire now serves a broader industrial market with exceptional durability and light quality. The aluminum circuit boards and efficient LED light engines enable high ambient temperature operation, while internal reflectors improve light output and coverage. The impact-resistant textured lens reduces glare and enhances visual comfort, making it a suitable choice for task lighting in workbenches, catwalks, mining equipment, and modular building interiors.

The BL fixture’s lightweight design and multiple mounting options simplify installation in both new and retrofit projects. Its angle-adjustable mounting brackets offer 360° rotation, ensuring precise aiming and optimized lighting performance. Power supply options include 0–10V dimmable drivers compatible with 120–277 VAC and 347 VAC inputs, supporting a range of lighting control systems and energy-saving strategies.

For environments that demand even greater protection, Nemalux offers the BL-EN — an encapsulated, IP68-rated version of the fixture. The BL-EN uses an optically clear encapsulant to permanently seal the fixture, allowing it to operate at full output while submerged in water up to 25 feet deep. This makes it ideal for marine infrastructure, industrial washdown areas, and wet or flooded environments where conventional lighting would fail.

Additionally, the BL-Z21 variant of the series is certified for Zone 21 hazardous locations, where explosive dust atmospheres are present under normal operation. This certification further expands the application range of the BL series into specialized environments such as food processing, grain handling, and chemical manufacturing plants.

With an operating temperature range of -50°C to +65°C and ingress protection ratings of IP66 or IP68, the BL series ensures long-lasting, reliable performance in the most challenging conditions. Its rugged construction, replaceable components, and wide certification coverage make the BL an ideal LED lighting solution for demanding industrial, marine, and hazardous applications.
