Hazardous Area Linear LED Fixtures for Zone 1 and Zone 21 Certified Explosive Environments

The CEAG ExLin and ExLin NE+ series from Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds Division represent advanced non-metallic hazardous area linear LED light fixtures designed for safe and efficient illumination in Zone 1 and Zone 21 classified environments. These fixtures offer significantly longer service life, improved energy efficiency, and superior performance compared to traditional fluorescent lighting, making them an excellent choice for hazardous locations demanding reliability and durability.

The ExLin LED fixtures integrate cutting-edge LED technology with optimized thermal management and robust, field-proven glass-reinforced polyester (GRP) enclosures. This combination ensures exceptional longevity and dependable operation even under extreme environmental conditions. With five available lumen output ranges, from 2,910 to 11,230 lumens, the ExLin can effectively replace various fluorescent fixtures such as 2x18W, 2x36W, and 2x58W models. The fixture’s optical system offers customizable standard, wide, and narrow beam distributions, allowing tailored illumination that meets specific application requirements and can potentially reduce the number of installed fixtures.

A notable innovation within the series is the ExLin NE+ emergency light fixture, which includes a self-contained battery system providing a decentralized emergency lighting solution. This emergency model features a state-of-the-art lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery known for enhanced performance and reliability. In emergency operation mode, the fixture delivers a consistent lumen output of 2,000 lumens for 1.5 hours or 1,000 lumens for 3 hours, maintaining the same light distribution pattern as during mains operation to ensure uniform illumination and increased safety during power outages.

The ExLin fixtures comply with stringent international safety and performance standards. They carry IEC certifications, including EC-Type Examination Certificate BVS 18 ATEX E 037 X and IECEx Certificate IECEx BVS 18.0028X, marking them suitable for explosive atmospheres under directives 2014/34/EU. The fixtures are marked for gas group IIC and dust group IIIC with temperature classes T4/T5, and provide ingress protection ratings of IP66/IP67, ensuring resistance to dust and powerful water jets. They also hold an IK10 impact rating according to IEC/EN 62262, demonstrating robust mechanical protection. Depending on configuration, these fixtures can operate reliably in ambient temperatures ranging from -40°C up to +55°C.

The design of the ExLin series emphasizes both performance and safety. With a rated lifetime of up to 100,000 hours at 25°C, these LED fixtures provide many years of low-maintenance operation. They deliver an impressive luminous efficacy of approximately 130 lumens per watt, yielding up to 40% energy savings over conventional fluorescent lighting. The available optics—standard, narrow, and wide beam—optimize light distribution for varied applications, reducing fixture quantities and improving illumination quality. Lens options include clear or frosted toughened glass, and an optional laminated glass lens with an external plastic foil safeguards against glass breakage, an important feature for critical processes in food, beverage, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.

The ExLin fixtures feature a low-profile, lightweight design that allows for easy drop-in replacement of fluorescent eLLK fixtures. The durable GRP enclosure material is widely recognized for its longevity and resistance to harsh industrial and hazardous environments globally. Thermal management is carefully engineered to maintain optimal operating temperatures and extend the fixture’s lifespan. Additionally, the ExLin can be equipped with V-CG-S emergency lighting technology, enabling integration with a facility’s central emergency lighting system.

The ExLin NE+ emergency lighting fixtures offer advanced features such as two available models (3L with 2,910 lumens and 5L with 5,610 lumens), configurable emergency modes providing 2,000 or 1,000 lumens output over 1.5 to 2 hours, and superior battery technology using LiFePO4 for faster and more stable charging. The emergency fixtures maintain consistent light distribution patterns, and integrated software automatically manages functional and quarterly partial duty-cycle tests per DIN EN 50172 and DIN V VDE 0108-100-1 standards. A two-diode LED display provides clear visual indicators of charging and battery status. The inclusion of Hot Swap technology facilitates safe battery replacement within hazardous areas without the need to disconnect the main power supply, enhancing maintenance safety and convenience.

Standard materials for the ExLin series include a glassfiber-reinforced polyester enclosure paired with toughened glass or polycarbonate lenses, available in clear or opaque finishes to suit diverse application needs. This combination of durable materials and advanced technology positions the CEAG ExLin and ExLin NE+ LED linear light fixtures as reliable, energy-efficient, and safe lighting solutions tailored specifically for demanding hazardous area applications.
