The Pad-Star® DC Elevated Ground Mount – 2nd Generation is the latest innovation from FEC Heliports, designed to provide superior perimeter lighting for heliports with a strong focus on safety, durability, and regulatory compliance. As a critical component of any heliport lighting system, perimeter and obstruction lights serve to clearly mark the FATO (Final Approach and Takeoff Area) and TLOF (Touchdown and Lift-Off Area), enabling pilots to safely locate and land on the pad, even in poor visibility, nighttime, or inclement weather conditions.
This newly redesigned LED ground perimeter light, released in December 2020, incorporates a hermetically sealed optical assembly that prevents condensation and ensures long-lasting performance. Standard on all Pad-Star models is an integrated Infra-Red (IR) output, offering NVG (Night Vision Goggle) compatibility to support military and emergency operations. It features universal compatibility with existing heliport lighting systems, allowing for easy integration or upgrades without the need for complex modifications. The fixture is pre-wired for straightforward installation and can operate on renewable energy sources with its energy-efficient 12-24 VDC power requirements.
Built to withstand the harshest environments, the Pad-Star® DC is manufactured from mil-spec anodized cast aluminum and finished with hard anodizing to MIL-A-8625 Type II, Class 1 standards. It includes stainless steel hardware, a tempered borosilicate lens, and a robust mounting flange constructed from 6061-T6 aluminum, ensuring long-term resistance to corrosion and wear. The light’s operating temperature range spans from -40°C to +55°C, and the LED components are rated for over 50,000 hours of use. It is driven by a single Osram visible LED paired with three Osram IR diodes for optimal illumination and IR output.
This 2nd Generation Pad-Star® meets or exceeds all relevant international heliport lighting standards, including FAA EB#87 (L-860HR & HS), FAA AC 150/5390-2 (Heliports Design Guide), ICAO Annex 14 Volume II, UK CAP 437, and CAP 1264. Its electrical performance includes a power draw of 6 watts at 0.350mA and is controlled via FEC PLC systems. Physically, the fixture stands 4.25 inches above the surface, with a body diameter of 6.5 inches, an 8-inch flange, and a bolt-hole circle diameter of 7 1/6 inches with four equally spaced 5/16-inch holes.
