FAA and UK CAP Certified Helideck Status Light System with Wave Off Warning Signal

The HA-SLS Status Light System plays a critical role in ensuring helideck safety by providing pilots with clear and immediate visual signals. This system is designed to actively warn pilots when conditions on the helideck are unsafe for landing or takeoff, thereby preventing accidents and promoting secure helicopter operations. Its most prominent feature is the “Wave Off” or warning light, which instantly activates during hazardous situations, signaling pilots to avoid attempting to land or take off. This immediate visual cue significantly reduces the risk of accidents by clearly communicating unsafe conditions.

The HA-SLS system is controlled via a dedicated controller box, which is typically installed in the helideck control room. This allows operators to efficiently manage and monitor the status light functions from a centralized location. It is important to note that while the system requires a cable connection between the status light and the controller unit, this cable—capable of extending up to 50 meters—is not included with the system and must be sourced separately.

To enhance visibility and safety further, the system supports the connection of up to two synchronized repeaters, known as HA-OSH11 units. These optional repeaters work in perfect synchronization with the main status light, ensuring the warning signals are visible from multiple angles around the helideck. This feature improves pilot awareness and contributes to safer landings and takeoffs by increasing the visibility of critical safety signals.

The HA-SLS Status Light System flashes at a rate of 120 flashes per minute (2 Hz) and delivers a light output exceeding 700 candelas within a beam spread of 2° to 10°. In wider angles from 0° to 90°, the output is above 176 candelas, with a dimmed configuration offering under 60 candelas for situations requiring reduced brightness. The controller unit is housed in a sturdy steel cabinet coated in gray RAL 7035 powder finish, measuring 340 x 400 x 170 mm, and equipped with two standard M20 cable glands for secure wiring connections.

Power consumption of the system can reach a maximum of 100 watts, supplied via 100-240 VAC at 50/60 Hz, ensuring compatibility with standard electrical infrastructures. The LEDs used in the system boast a long service life exceeding 75,000 hours, providing reliable performance with minimal maintenance. The system’s components are built to withstand harsh environments, featuring ingress protection ratings of IP66 and IP67, and an operational ambient temperature range from -40°C up to +60°C.

Certified to meet stringent aviation safety standards including UK CAP 168 and UK CAP 437, the HA-SLS Status Light System is a vital safety tool that helps maintain clear communication and visibility on the helideck, supporting safe and efficient helicopter operations in all conditions.
