Eaton's Crouse-Hinds series has expanded its trusted line of LED luminaires to include emergency lighting capabilities with the introduction of the Champ VMVL LED and Champ Pro PVML LED fixtures equipped with integral back-up battery systems. These advanced luminaires are engineered to deliver critical illumination in hazardous and industrial environments during power outages, providing up to 90 minutes of reliable emergency lighting. This capability enhances safety and security for personnel in mission-critical facilities, including manufacturing plants, chemical and petrochemical installations, offshore platforms, parking areas, and loading docks.
Both VMVL and PVML luminaires are designed for superior performance and durability. The VMVL LED, rated for hazardous locations, is certified for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, and D; Class I, Zone 2; Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, and G; and Class III locations, including those with simultaneous presence of flammable substances. Both VMVL and PVML models meet standards for wet locations with a Type 4X, IP66 rating, and are tested to UL1598, UL1598A Marine, and UL924 emergency luminaire standards. The VMVL further meets UL844 standards for hazardous classified locations, while both product lines comply with CSA C22.2 No. 137.
Available in five lumen packages ranging from 3,000 to 11,000 lumens, these luminaires are ideal for mounting heights between 8 and 20 feet, making them versatile for a range of indoor and outdoor lighting applications. The integral battery ensures the lights automatically activate in the event of a power failure, maintaining visibility and aiding in safe egress and operational continuity.
Built with a die-cast aluminum housing and adapter coated in a Corro-free epoxy powder finish, these fixtures are engineered for longevity, with the VMVL LED rated at 60,000 hours of operation at 55°C ambient temperature. This long lifespan translates to an economic service life of 7 to 20 years. The robust design includes a heat- and impact-resistant glass lens, silicone gaskets for sealing, and stainless steel external hardware. Factory sealing eliminates the need for additional external seals.
Champ VMVL and PVML LEDs also offer enhanced optical performance with custom Type I, Type III, and Type V optics that efficiently direct light where needed, reducing fixture count in some applications. Energy efficiency is another hallmark, with up to 77% energy savings over traditional HID fixtures. Instant-on functionality ensures no warm-up time is required, even in cold environments, and the solid-state construction—with no filaments or glass—delivers resistance to shock and vibration.
Flexible mounting options include pendant, cone pendant, flexible pendant, ceiling, wall, and both straight and 25° stanchion mounts. Standard color temperature is cool white (5000K, 70 CRI), with optional warm white (3000K, 80 CRI) and neutral white (4000K, 80 CRI) to suit various application needs. These luminaires also contain no mercury or other hazardous substances, making them a safer, environmentally responsible solution for emergency and general area lighting.
