The LBXE LED Emergency Bulkhead is a compact, durable, and highly versatile lighting solution designed specifically to provide safe and reliable illumination in hazardous areas. Engineered for critical environments, this robust luminaire ensures the continuous lighting of essential walkways, steps, and entrances. In the event of a mains power failure, the LBXE automatically switches to emergency battery power, maintaining visibility and safety during outages.
Building upon the core design of the standard LBX Bulkhead range, the LBXE Emergency model incorporates all the foundational performance and construction benefits while offering enhanced emergency functionality. The fixture includes a built-in NiMH battery, which allows the installer to select from three different emergency operation modes: four hours at 25% maximum lumen output, two hours at 50%, or one hour at 100%. This flexibility ensures site-specific emergency lighting strategies can be implemented with ease.
An advanced Intelligent Emergency circuit is integrated into the unit, performing routine functional and battery duration self-tests to constantly assess system health. Importantly, during these self-test periods, the LBXE Emergency maintains full LED light output, allowing normal operations and visibility to continue uninterrupted in surrounding areas.
Depending on user requirements, the Emergency Bulkhead can be configured on-site to operate in either a "maintained" mode—illuminated continuously while energized—or a "non-maintained" mode, where it remains off during normal operation and activates only during power failure. Regardless of the selected mode, the unit will illuminate in the event of a mains power loss. Should the battery be removed for servicing or replacement, the light will continue functioning at full brightness when powered via mains in maintained mode.
A three-color LED indicator provides real-time visual status feedback. Green confirms correct operation, amber signals that a self-test is in progress, and red indicates a system fault or insufficient battery charge. Further diagnostic details are available in the user manual to support quick maintenance and troubleshooting.
Certified for use in hazardous areas, the LBXE Emergency Bulkhead carries the ExVeritas 19 ATEX 0439X, IECEx EXV 19.0002X, and ExVeritas 21 UKEX 0945X certifications. It is rated for Zones II 2 G D with Ex eb mb IIC T4 Gb gas protection and Ex tb IIIC T80°C Db dust protection. The luminaire supports a wide input voltage range of 100–140V AC and 200–277V AC at 50–60Hz, operating with a high power factor of >0.90. Consuming 6W in emergency mode and 32W during standard operation, the unit delivers a maximum output of 1,629 lumens through a single DLO LED module. A 90° beam angle is standard, with a 110° option available upon request.
Built to withstand harsh environments, the bulkhead is IP66/IP67 rated (depending on gland type used), supporting operation in temperatures from -40°C up to 59°C. It emits a crisp, high-visibility 5000K color temperature and weighs approximately 5.5 kg, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial emergency lighting applications.
